View Full Version : Spray tint on a grandpa wing

I have a grandpa wing ready to go, it's the style that doesn't have a bump in the middle, sort of a carbon fibre look. But a fair bit of the little checkered squares on the bottom side are scraped off, even just sliding my finger on them makes them rub off, so it's not looking too flash. So I've thought about scraping it all off and spraying nightshade or something to pretty much black it out. Would this work or would having the tint exposed to the outside of the car make it fade or flake? Keeping in mind the tint would be on the bottom side facing the glass not facing up at the sun. I've never used the stuff before so I don't know if it's a bad idea. Thoughts, people?

Its fine to spray on =) Im doing the same thing with my own, except it had soo many scrathes on top i have to do it there.
Just rub back all of the underside and spray away!
I agree, Plastic polish the top if it has scratches, paint the underside. Remember your rear centre brake light still needs to show through, so no solid colours.

That's what I wanted to hear!

Hmmm so the brake light won't be directly visible to cars at my rear just from having the wing there? I suppose truck drivers would have to see through the wing to see the brake light anyway wouldn't they.. I guess I should just spray a coat or two, then hold it against the windscreen and test how much light goes through?
get real carbon fiber! and a low mount brake light from TE/F parcel shelf

Came out alright! Although when I sprayed the side bits where it curves the tint ran a fair bit and resulted in some blotches (around the mits logo) because that part is on an angle, although it's barely noticeable unless looking directly at light through it, it's still something to be wary of if you plan on doing this.

I've actually been tempted to acetone wash it to get rid of all of the Carbon Fibre look pattern and then covering it with 3M Dicon Carbon Fibre look vinyl.
