Hi, I have a 1996 TE Magna Executive 2.4L 4cyl, 315000kms on the clock. last couple of years I've noticed the the starter is hesitant to get going, it cranks a few times before the engine starts up. Didn't actually give me any probs til about a few months ago, when it wouldn't start. had to get NRMA to come give me a jumpstart, they said the battery was testing fine but starter motor was drawing too much power. my battery was still under warranty so I got a new one and also got a second-hand starter motor put in by my mechanic (works out of his home garage). still a bit hesitant, but much better. then gradually over the next couple months it became more and more hesitant. Now this week it has not started twice. I bought myself a jumpstart pack to keep in the car and had to use it once, but obviously there's still a problem somewhere. mechanic doesn't know what the problem is. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Sounds like alternator, check the battery without the car going with multimeters, should sit on the 12v mark our a bit better, then check the battery with the car going, should sit around 14.3v mark, if it sits way over or under 14.3v there is a problem with your alternator
