Hey guys

My TE is due for brakes. Like.. yesterday.

Brakes are adequate but due for new rotors & pads. While at it may as well upgrade if it's cheap/easy. A few threads on it but didn't find a clear one on which model has the parts I need & exactly what parts I need to get.

So... do I just find any FWD V6 TE-TW Magna that has twin pots, and grab rotors, pads, calipers & lines and bolt straight up to my 4cyl auto TE?

Thanks

not sure if the 4cyls had different brakes, but most people put 380 front brakes on 3rd gens.

On the 3rd gen Magnas, only the TJ/TL/TW AWD and TJ Ralliart models had twin piston front calipers. They're both identical. They're both a bolt on fit to your car. However, all other 3rd gens have the same brakes you currently have.

The other popular upgrade is the 380 front brakes. The 380's caliper and brake pad surface area are larger than the Magna twin piston brakes, and hence are better performing.

If you want bigger rear brakes, you'll have to go AWD or Ralliart - the 380 don't fit. The AWDs require a spacer to fit. Ralliart rear brakes are hard to find. The sensible solution is just to machine your existing rotors and put a decent set of pads in.

Thanks for the replies.

Regarding the TJ/TL/TW AWD & TJ Ralliart twin-pots, do the rotors & lines go straight on as well?

They go straight on afaik. Not sure what the go is with the lines, I haven't done it first-hand so I can't say definitely.

If you have a 380 upgrade, you need the line from the caliper to the hub. Apart from that, it's a bolt on.

Come to think of it, what wheels are you running? I can't recall if the Ralliart/AWD brakes will fit behind 15" mags or the factory steelies. I'm pretty sure the 380 brakes won't.

16" wheels will be the minimum wheel size you'll be able to use- which ever brake upgrade you do.
