Ive been doing somereading but can't seem to find anything that fits my problem, just got my magna back on the road with an engine transplant after the previous owner blew the bottom end.

the problem:
I was driving to work today and after putting on the headlights I found the trip computer display turns off, goes dark. once I turn the lights off again it work fine. the rest of the dash seems to work fine

anyone had similar issue?

I'm thinking might be a blown globe, but the sceen just goes black when the headlights turn on, when the headlights a turned off the display seems a little bright,

any comments a welcome
thanks
Michael

Try on the right hand side just above the ignition, theres a dial that can be spun. Turn it to the right and then try the centre light.

already tried that, to me it appearse as if the entire screen goes black not just the back light. I think I might have to pull the dash a part and try connecting a multimeter and see if there is any power going to the screen when I turn the H/lights on.

any other ideas welcome
thanks

anyone here that has a wire diagram or can explain which wires does what and what the volatage should be on the wires.

I tested the wires last night there is a couple that have -0.30 V and others range around 6V-12V.

all I found out so far is that once I turn on the lights the trip computer backlights turn off possibly fault with the dimming, I might try and get anther unit,
I am leaning more towards it being a internal issue, then a wiring issue.

anyhelp is welcome :bouncin:
thanks
Michael

Check all loom connectors and make sure they are plugged in and no wires have come out. Make sure you connected the connector behind the dimmer wheel switch, as this is the exact symptom of it not being connected.

thanks for the info
the wheel still works for the dash lights but will check it later to make sure no cables came un-done,
and so far all the loom conntectors are pluged in
