View Full Version : Tyre pressure
Hey guys,
WHat pressure do you guys use other than what's recommended. Wheels in questions are stock 17's on 05 GT.
It says max I can go on normal load is 32psi all round. If travelling over 160km/h then front has to be increased by 7psi.
Thanks

Thats not max pressure, thats suggested. Its a balance between comfort and road holding.
For enthusiastic driving i would run them higher, perhaps between 35-38 psi front and back.

For your stock 17s, I'd run 36-38 psi in the front, and 34-36 psi in the rear.
Manufacturer recommended tyre pressures are usually on the conservative side to allow for a cushier ride. Increasing your tyre pressures will make the ride bumpier, but will improve tyre wear and handling.
Your tyres will normally be able to handle around 50 psi without damage. This is the maximum pressure they can safely hold, and will usually be stated on the tyre sidewall. However, anything above 40 psi is risking over-inflation in my opinion.

I agree - that's what I run - 2 to 4 psi less at back to help negate undesteer
I run Nitrogen and keep them at 40psi all around

I run 40psi too, front and back. Makes a huge difference to economy.
After a lot of exprerimentation I run 40 at the front and 37 at the back on stock 17" rims.
Gives a sportier feel but you do notice the bumps a little more. I tried 42 front and 40 rear but it was just too bumpy.
Interesting to see the difference pressures you guys use!
Surprised that you can actually go as much 40psi :eek2:
Think I will gradually work my up the psi chart & see which is the best balance of on road comfort, economy & tyre wear.
Thanks guys for the response so far!

When I had my stock GT wheels I always ran 40psi, always good for the economy on the highway.....

40 front & 36 rear here, last set of 245's had even wear across the surface when I replaced them.
