just me again,

I'm back from my weekend away with my lady and now curious about wheels and suspension

Im thinking that i wanna drop the car by 1.5" at the rear and 2" at the front. i plan on putting in a pair of subs in the not to distant future so im guessing that should work out about right..
(am i able to just put the springs on, or do i HAVE to replace the shocks. Because ide rather do it in 2 stages)

Im in VIC and I want my ride to be legal last thing i need is a defect for height. Also just wanna check on how large the wheels can be?
My guess is 17x7 LEGALLY, ide love to go larger if i can though.

im after a multi spoke rim like 30 spokes preferably in white, if not ill get them powder coated :)

any suggestions to any of the above would be appreciated
(eg brand of springs, different height suggestions, brand of wheels etc)

Thanks

You can replace the springs without the shocks, thats not a problem. Its nice to replace the shocks at the same time however not many people have the $$$ to do it.

1.5" at the rear and 2" at the front would keep your car legal and if you have stock 15" rims 17" would be the highest your allowed to go up legally.

Id be putting it down 2" both front and back.
They have such a high rear arch as well that I think the weight of the subs wouldnt effect it that much.... why not get the GF to sit in the boot and compare how much it drops down... or get two people in ...
Point being if you only go 1.5" later you will be kicking yourself.
Im in Qld but my insurance will be with NRMA and they say 7" is the "widest" I can have on to be insured... I can put on 20"s if I want as long as they are not wider than 7"... transport dept may may say something like no more than 2 sizes or no more than 20% etc check out vicroads on line to see.
As far as lowness... as long as the lowest part of the car is = or > than 100mm off the ground your fine... I put the car on level ground and measured the exhaust pipe down the centre of the car I think this was the lowest part of the car. You could use a 100mm bit of timber adn then tape a small ruler onto the end and slide it under the car, to see how much you have to work with... relaity is IMHO that the police etc would just stick a bit of 4" timber under the sills or front spoiler to check the height... and maynot go for the actual lowest point.
I droped my car 89mm and it is legal...I think :) well it was until I put the front bar on.
In re to the springs I also lowered just the springs using the peeders superlow rough riders... they seemed ok but I also then used a set of spring compressors on the front to drop it again... I found that it quickly stuffed the factory shocks because of the shorted travel in the shock ...
I then ended up get them reconditioned and made stronger and shortened.. about $450.. at a shock reconditioner.. they also matched up the springs better to suit the new travel..
Crap I waffeled again.. my bad :D

i fitted kings the same as what you want to do - go superlows all around - much better!! lows really dont make it looks lowered!! hard to belive but true!!
i still have three finger gap between rubber and wheel arch in the front with superlows

as for wheel - u r legally allowed to go up two inches from factory wheel size

Aurora is another good brand for springs, aussie made to aussie conditions and damn good quality.

King isnt the only option, but they are tried and true.

i dont get why people lower the front more :?

the magnas have a body that naturally looks like the front is nosediving.....definately get 2" all round

I find it funny that Fooya is suggesting only 2" all round when his car is something like 5" all round.

Im sure people will say Koni... I still like the idea that my shocks were built to the specs of the cars lowness... also you may need a camber kit (sloted and offset bolts to straighten the wheel tops out more...
I know I need them BAD...after about 5000km my tyres were scuffed out on the inside really bad... so bad I blew two within 1week of each other :(
I replaced them with cheap 40 fitted and balanced 235/45/17 until I get the chance to drop it in to get the camber kit.... then Ill get new rubber :)
Haydn

Just added a pic of the back of my TE Id like to see it a little lower but once I but the 245/40/17 on it should raise the profile under the lip a bit.
