I have the opportunity to get a factory Bluetooth set-up from a 380 and was wondering how hard it would be to install into a 2nd or 3rd Gen.
Has anyone done this before ?

mcs_xi has gone it to his Verada. So has ..GONE.. . I'm lead to believe the wiring is plug and play with the factory stereos - it's just a matter of finding somewhere to mount the gear.

Plug and play, only thing to sort is the button.
Have done several times

What about with aftermarket stereo though ?
Are there any instructions online or that you can give ?

I would have thought it'd be dependent on whether you're running your speakers off your headunit or off your amplifier....

Provided you are running your speakers from your head unit will not be an issue as the parrot will actually cut the speakers within the parrot unit and then activate the front left speaker.
As far as the std plug in the car's loom goes, it is plug and play, provided no one has cut this off you will be fine, most use the adapters these days when using aftermarket head units this the oem plug on the cars loom should be intact

There are 2 issues.
First, the button mounting. I came up with a solution.

Second, the mute wire for aftermarket audio will generally not be connected to the main harness. In my case, the phone mute wire going to the factory audio was in a secondary plug (KH XI) so I had to manually connect it to the 380 BT system. Once done, I have had zero issues connecting my iPhone and the BT controls the full iPhone voice system. So it can be told to play music (in my car, it cable connects but it controled by voice) etc etc.

Indeed..
The one mcs_xi has in his, is in fact my old unit.
Plug & Play apart from Button & Mute Wire.

I can't imagine the looms being too different but I too would like to know this for a TH Exec.

Is this cost effective when a bluetooth head unit is only around $200? You can also access your phone book on some of the head units.
I guess it is worthwhile as long as the parts aren't too expensive or if you have a high end head unit that you want to keep.
Though I must admit, the large buttons would be nicer than the answer button on my head unit.

Given what I paid for the system, and also as you say, I have a high end HU which lacked BT (pioneer make a box for it, but it is expensive and difficult to get), I found it cost effective.
If you have cut the plug from your Audio install (This is insanely foolish but anyway) you will have to reinstall the plug. The BT system is like an extension of the wiring harness rerouting the audio wires through the BT Magic Box before and then back to the audio. Buy an Aeropro harness for your HU and reinstall the audio plug to make it so much easier.

Completely agree. Was a pain in my old TE when changing stereos thanks to the installer of the previous stereo cutting the wires. The first thing I bought for my VR-X was the audio harness.

Audio harnesses make things so much damn easier.
