Hi all
Im looking at replacing the audio unit in my KH Verada. Want to put in a combo unit with cd usb bluetooth and sat nav have seen one that fitted exactly in, but couldnt tell the brand. Does anyone know of such a beast where to get and a rough idea of cost and fitting in sydney at a reasonable price.
Thanks
Rob

Hey mate,
well a double din unit to fit into your KH is going to be really expensive. Those GPS units are worth over $1K.
As for installation, do it yourself. I have done it in my KH. Its really straight forwards with Aerpro wiring harnesses, that way you don't have to cut any wires etc. If you're not too far away from me I'm happy to lend you a hand :)

Well, the sky's the limit, really.
Primarily, I wouldn't recommend getting a unit with Navigation built in. As nice and "all-in-one" as that is, the navigation units are almost twice the price of an identical unit without navigation. Plus the maps are generally never updated, or you have to pay through the nose to get an update (if at all). In this case, I would very much recommend just using your phone, I'm going to assume you have an iPhone, or some sort of Android phone; anything that supports Navigation (Google Navigation, etc.) will be much better than anything the headunits have.
With that out of the way, it comes down to what sort of unit you want. Are you happy with a Single-DIN unit, or prefer Double-DIN? Here's a picture of my old unit and my new one, in my KH. Personally, I think the Double-DIN is a billion times better, not only because it has more features and a touch screen, but it just "flows" with the dash and overall look so much better. More-so because I don't have an ugly pocket for random shit. Double-DINs are generally more expensive, but again, I think worth it. Because you mentioned navigation, I'm going to assume you already know you want a Double-DIN.

Next step is then, what brand you want. As you can see, I like Pioneer. Generally speaking, Pioneer or Alpine are the best units to get. There are cheapo no-name brands on Ebay, but I really wouldn't recommend it, as not only will the unit (in most cases) be more easily breakable, but you will actually get worse sound from it.
I've got myself Pioneer's latest model, the AVH P8400BH (or P8450BT here). I imported mine from the states as it was over $400 cheaper. Installing just the headunit is really easy to do yourself if you want to, if not, headunit installs are generally $50-$100.
Once the headunit is done, you need some better speakers to get that premium sound out of. It gets even harder here as there are so many more price-points, brands and "good" options. Again, in the "main" brands, Pioneer and Alpine have the best speakers. We can discuss the alleged best brand "Boston Accoustic", but they're pretty expensive. I have Alpine S-Series 6" Splits in my front doors and Pioneer 6x9" in the parcel shelf.
Going past the spekears, I would recommend a subwoofer. Not for da fully sick doof doof, but some low-end frequencies. Despite what anyone wants to say/judge about a subwoofer, it provides a much better low note (obviously). Doesn't matter whether you're listening to techno, or orchestral music. A subwoofer will give you the extra "oomph!" to really make a song sound epic.
As long as you're not blasting doof doof with maximum volume, I'd recommend just getting the 12" Kicker Kick-Pack. Has a decent AMP+Sub combo ready to go.
...I think that's everything, let me know if you want more info. :)

autobarn had some sony dvd/ cd / usb/ style double dins on sale for 449 last week where i am check out local and see what they got but as mentioned paying 2 or 3 times for the inbuilt nav system that are normally a POS just isnt good spending
for the money you can save you can get a decent garmin 4.3"gps, and a decent set of 6" spilts to go with your new headunit

Your right guys, the sat nav makes it a lot more expensive. checked with autobahn they have both in double din format.. $550 fitted without nav....$1050 fitted with nav, will go without nav and for now just upgrade the rear speakers.
Yes i have an android and it does have navigation just cant understand her
thanks for the input

Keep in mind that it may not be legal to use your phone's navigation while driving...a stand-alone GPS to keep in the glove box may not be a bad idea.

I picked up a double DIN with GPS, DTV, DVD, MP3 and Bluetooth for under $400 on fleabay (Chinese seller) and it's brilliant. Just bought the ISO adaptor from Autobarn and it was plug & play, even the aerial does what it's supposed to. :)

I think just about the only thing required from memory to change the head unit is a screw driver.

Sorry to hear about your house mate. That's truly terrible.
Might be able to sort out your installation for you. It's nice and easy to do.

While you're at it do your front speakers. It's a more worthwhile upgrade than the rears, so best to do it instead, or as well as the rears. 6x9's also have a tendancy to be more expensive than 6.5's.

Hi Room,
I have a KL Verada 6 CD in dash OEM unit that wont accept CDs..says WAITING for about 30secs then stops.. I was thinking of replacing the unit with a KH Verada unit as I think they had 4 CD & Cassette..??
I am considering this option rather than a replacement brand head unit as I wanted to retain the steering wheel control over stereo..will my idea work? costs?
cheers

KH Stock Audio, is double Din HU with 6 stack CD unit under the passenger seat.
As for putting one in a KL, the KH unit is not a bad device! I was impressed the first time I heard it. Be aware however, that while the steering wheel remote controls will work with the unit, you may require a different plug as the phone and remote wire as well as the half height antenna wire are in a seperate plug from memory. The rest of the stuff in the main plug will be plug and play. It has been a while since I have seen the back of a KL unit, but for the KH, Look in this post for pics and a wiring diagram.
