Given the talk about KYB shocks that's been happening lately I was looking in to getting some for my car.. turns out if you have a TE-TL Sports or VR-X or if you're really looking for something performance oriented for a "lesser" model you're better off going elsewhere.
KYB don't make a performance shock for the 3rd gen Magna, just something a bit firmer as an OEM replacement.
And that's straight from the horse's mouth, too, I rang them direct.

Dude i had a set of KYB's put onto my 3.0L TF V6 when i got my king springs and they seem a hell of a lot firmer than the Pedders sports gas (monroe's) i had before.
Or are you refering to the adjustables that they offer to some cars!!

Before I rang them I had a look on their part finder section of their web site (http://www.kyb.com.au). Under Mitsubishi Magna they have the part numbers for the shocks but specifically state "excl. Sports/VR-X" so I rang them to check, and yeah, they don't make a performance shock for the 3rd gen.
Keep in mind that the suspension in the Sports/VR-X is different to the rest of the range.. I'm actually not sure if they run a different shock or not (one of the mitsu dealers on here should be able to tell us..) but KYB don't consider their shocks a replacement for the VR-X range it seems.
There are two parts finders on their web site, normal shocks and performance shocks (the adjustable ones you mention). LIke you say, there are none for any magna in that range. :(
Remember that your King springs will make a big difference on their own. I got springs done without replacing the shocks and there was a noticable improvement just from that.

The sports/vrx DO have different shocks. They are also ~10mm lower too iirc. Tbutcher made a good post about it once.

why not go Koni or Boge??? I know, KYB is cheaper...... but if that's not the issue, then I always prefer Koni.
Unless you want to go Coilovers.

I'm looking at Koni or Monroe GT-Gas at the moment. The Koni stuff sounds scary - cut the strut open and bolt in the new dampeners.. but I guess that's all part of the average day for a suspension place. Not sure I can afford the Konis though! :(

Any one here have experience with the Monroe GT-gas shocks? I've heard that they're pretty good for the price, just looking for other ppls opinions.

If you cant afford the koni's then why not try the KYB's .......i think they are a nice firm ride, with my setup they handle awesome.

I have GT gas struts all round, and they are very good how much they cost, don't try to compare Monroe's to Koni's, because they are not in the same league, but if you're on a budget and want a firm ride, GT gas should be enough for the average city driver. I don't like going over bad road surfaces on GT gas, they are too firm for my liking.

just got my whioteline kit installed (BY WHITELINE) and as cthulhu mentioned, u need to modify the front strut to put in the dampeners (the guy said something in that order anyway)...
but is that a bad approach? it's probably the only way to get the front koni's fitted to a 3rd gen??

???? modify the strut to put in the dampeners??? cut open the strut?? what the?? you might have to install a camber/castor kit, allows better more adjustment travel of wheels, but i can't see why you'ld have to modify the strut!! spill some more details on this please, i've never heard of anybody having to do this (to a magna) before and my mechanic didn't mention it either (maybe he didnt know)..
anyway, i have got the GT gas, and after 10K km they seem to be holding up ok... no complaints about ride (better then the old ones!!)

I'm after some new shockies around end of the year, i emailed whitline and it was around 650 for both front and back kyb's. I'm after good handling over ride comfort but without breaking the bank, roughly what are others payin for four struts?
1st gen magna wagon.

i paid about $500 installed for a full set of GT gas, it was not the cheapest i found (~$450), but i went with the people i liked rather than the others that were trying to give me the run around!!

basically the front was an insert installation... the existing strut tube was cutted to locate the insert.

RPW have them on special at the moment, for an excellent price too. Prices are on RPW's site... http://www.rpw.com.au/specials.htm
As for fitting, the local performance/mechanic shop said 3hrs work x $50/hr. Although I can't remember if that included the fitment of other mods at the same time

I just had my suspension done at RPW the other day, Lovell Springs and KYB suspension, handles soo much better.
The ride is definatly harder and you feel it over certain bumps/dips/holes in the road but it isn't too harsh.
