Hi guys just a quick one.

I think the ECU in my car is damaged from coolant dropping onto the contacts.

If I get another ECU from the wreckers from the same car as mine (eg: 96, 3L) will I be able to swap that over without getting it reprogrammed?

Finally I hope the answer is Yes but are Manual or Auto ECU's the same? (As mine is manual and finding another one at UPI will be very hard)

wait to confirm but i think you still have to switch the keys/locks etc at the same time. not sure on the auto/manual question though

If numbers match is ok. What are the numbers as I have about 20 te manual ecu here. Numbers match means no issue with key

Manual is different to auto

I believe the ECU is tied to the BEM module and the keys. If you're going to pull out an ecu then make sure you get the BEM and the ignition barrel out of the same car and see if the wrecker still has the keys. Otherwise you'll need to get a new one coded so you can start the car lol. Alternatively you could do a dodgy and disable the immobiliser.

I'm certain that you could use the auto ecu but you'd need to change the engine loom to an auto one as well. For auto-to-manual conversions the trick to make the ecu into thinking it's in neutral by crossing the black/red with the red wires on the inhibitor switch. My understand is that the manual engine loom as a different harness and would not connect into an auto ecu. I'll check the manual to see if the connections look different. I've seen a 3L manual ecu and it has different connectors to my 3.5L 4sp auto one though.

last time i was at u-pull-it ,there was a manual wagon there....TE/TF ...

Is it not the case that the earlier models ,didnt have a bem and it was easier to swap ecu ?

If numbers match on e and f series ecu should plug and play, is the case 95% of the timr. Te are slightly different in some ways as well as harder to get.

Last te ecu I sold last week to a trade customer and was my last te auto unit but have a couple manual ones, will check numbers during the week

Thanks for the help guys, I saw the 4 which obviously has a different ECU but the six that was there was PERFECT.

The ECU I pulled out of there was pretty clean and the numbers match perfectly.
