Hey guys,

so bit of an odd question - it appears that I have a water leak in my passenger foot well. Its not coolant, or from the heater core. It only leaks in with really, really heavy rain. Its not coming from my sunroof, windows or windshield.
It drips down onto the floor near where the foot well light is. I thought it may have been from my warped leaf guards, but I have tested this with some water, which just runs out onto the ground beneath the car with nothing entering the interior. It may be possible its coming in where my amp cable is running inside the car in the front left wheel arch behind the splash guard. I have looked at this and put some sealer on it but its still coming in. Where else should I look?

Cheers! :)

There's a grommit which leaks as I've heard. I had the same issue and need to fix the damn thing. I'ts probably the hole you've used for the amp cable.

there is a rubber bung that goes straight into the front guard behind the wheel splash guard is. Remove the kick panel and have a feel if this is there or get someone to shine a torch into the gap on the guard and look for light from the inside where the kick panel covers.

If its coming in from near the light it can be the main engine loom grommit. If looking from the cabin to the firewall its hiding behind a white plastic guard.

The grommit in the wheel well as actually pretty sound, im pretty sure mine is damaged but yet no water can still get through.

This is an XI guys, the Grommet is actually a sunroof drain tube outlet. So it is not a grommet in this car.

This has happened to me.

In my case, it was a plastic panel under the leaf guard. It is a panel that covers the opening for the aircon inlet. What happens is when it is really reall heavy rain, the plastic top fills with water, and the foam that it uses to mount is able to pass that water into the aircon system.

Taking off the plastic leaf guards at the front of the windscreen will enable you to see what I mean. I resealed this panel and then bought brand new leaf guards from Mitsu ($50 for the pair) with new rubber seals and this prevent water from getting in there. Problem solved.

Could some of the draft sealing foam that's sold in prestuck rolls from bunnings or Masters or where ever be a cheap easy fix?

Generally I use sikaflex (sparingly) to reseal this part

Another part that can cause a leak is the body seal near the bonnet hinge, requires the bonnet and the guard to be removed to repair properly
