If you mechanically minded, then it is a fairly easy swap.

If you know how to pull things like alternator, starter motor, engine mounts, manifolds, etc off then not every hard.

John from reading your posts it is my opinion that an engine swap is beyond your skill like it is for me. Use the money it would cost to swap the engine and pay more for a decent car...

I'm going to side with HaydenVRX on this one. Nothing against ya John but I haven't got any indication from any of your posts that you've done much mechanical work in the past and really know much about the basics of a vehicle's drivetrain and engine.

Doing an engine swap is not rocket science but does require a fair amount of mechanical knowledge. It isn't like removing a stereo or something. You need to understand the different parts of an engine bay, how they connect up, how they're removed, the layout of the bay, how to properly refit them, using the right tools - the right way and how to best tackle the job. It's not something I'd recommend to a 17yo who seems to be limited in their knowledge of how a clutch works. If it anyone could do it then everyone would.

I'm still confused on why you're planning to buy anouther car. You car has appears to have very minimal damage. For the front - you just need a new grille (cheap as chips for a TE) and a bonnet. The back end, if the bootfloor isn't damaged, then it's as simple as a rear bumper and reo. Again not difficult to find for your car. You could get probably get all the parts you need for less than $400. Look around and you may just find a blue magna being wrecked. I've got a TE bonnet and a TE rear bar, both in your colour (TH), that I'm about to send to the scrappers. If you organise postage it's yours for a very low price.

Hey im just asking
That And i do have a father and some friends who have mechanical expertise

And hulkstar...dry!

And again magna pi

Its a plan, i have realised that even if i do get it repaired,i stll have to spend money on some things that have to be repaired such as shocks and such

And my dad wants me to sell as he wants a car with at least abs and airbags so something like that is on the cards

Im just looking at my options if the car does get written off you know

If this were me john, i wouldnt wanna go back to a te tf etc. For a very small price you can buy EZZ's vrx for sale in the FS section. Its way underpriced in my opinion. And if i was in the position and lived closer id snap it up!

Plus why replace a 6g72 with the same. Yes good motors but go a 74 or get in contact with Madmagna and look at a 75 swap!

Also, how long can you have the car off the road for?

I wouldn't use a 72 as a boat anchor...

If one was leaving an engine bay in a magna i was working on, there'd be no way another 72 would take it's place.

Just buy a car with abs and airbags. EASY DONE!

Why though? For the same money you are going to spend, you can get a significantly better car. I have my te with a 72 in it but now that it is being replaced I will be getting a 74 no doubt. The 3.0 simply is an inferior engine to a 3.5. If you do an engine swap, find a written off 380 and stick that in.

Well there are magnas that have blown engines yet have good bodies, wanted to put my current engine(the reco one) in one

Looking at my options if the insurance deems teh car a write off

Have been looking at verada's with the 3.5 but not only are the verada bumpers longer, i am concerned about a bit higher fuel economy,or are 74's more fuel efficient??

Either way like i said,im just looking up my options

John. Your car is not a write off.

The 74 has similar economy and the longer bumpers are a safety feature.

John, to give you an idea, and youve gotta remember im in Adelaide your in NSW prices may vary,

But i got a TF Advanace with 165,000km on th clock, ABS, DUAL airbags, and a very straight body with service history for $1800. Guy wanted 2300 but i talked him down as tyres where close to replacing.

Seriously its not worth swapping a motor when you look at what ya could get for possibly cheaper!

i never said it was definate

but i had a look and i need suspension on the thing and other parts and my dad wants something safer

for the money i could spend on shocks and springs and other repairs, there are cars the same

that and if i id buy one with a 72 in it, just swap em out so i know at least mechanically the car is good

Sounds like John wants to get his money's worth out of the recon 72 he has.

Go for it. Buy a Magna with the features you want and a high Km engine. Get the manual (book, CD) and hire or buy a engine lift type of crane and go for it. Best way to learn. Hope the folks don't mind the yard looking like a wreckers for a while. lol
Of course, if you need to pay someone for the labour, that's a whole different situation.
