Okay firstly sorry if it has been covered before.

So anyway last year some time i noticed my car ticking more than that usual annoying noise, realised it was running low on oil a lot quicker than normally. Any who topped it up etc, had it serviced a little later. Ticking went back to normal.

Now all of a sudden it has started doing it again. Started ticking again, check the oil, below the low bar again. Done about 8000kms since the last time it was serviced (never had a problem doing longer periods and still having good amount of oil left). Mostly highway driving.
So im topping it up as we speak. Hopefully may reduce the ticking too....

Also noticing fuel economy is dropping a lot, car seems to be running real rich, heap of carbon buildup on exhaust tip, burning a lot of oil, and a bit of smoking here and there.

Little worried its the lifters, maybe sticky, or just shot, or the maybe valve stem seals? This may be causing the initial smoke.
Hoping its not rings or anything... :\
Any other ideas what it could be?

Thanks guys.
Anthony.

There were some problems with early build 380 engines. Someone mau correct me on this but i think it was piston rings not sealing well inside the cylinder

If it is this (which has all the pointers particularly the burning oil) then it can be fixed under warranty at mitsubishi thanks to the 10 year drivetrain warranty

Hmm really? Mine is an early 06, think feb or something. build 11xxx ??
I dont think im eligible for the 10 year warranty as im not the first owner.
Any idea how much this is to replace?
Or if there were problems, and listed as say a hotline fix or something then will it be covered if its an affected vehicle?

If you are in VIC, i reccomend you go visit mal for a diagnosis. If not, perhaps a visit to a mitsubishi dealership.

The fact it is a known build issue, you might be lucky

Thanks for your help mate :)

Is this the most likeliest issue guys of AM, or is someone else able to shed some light on maybe something else too???

Without actually having a look at the car in person and also knowing more about what oil you use, how often both in time as well as distance you change etc etc it is not possible to say what is going on

If you are the second owner then your 10yr warranty does not apply, you can check to see if there are any outstanding service bullitens on this car as these will still be honoured. I am happy to have a look and a chat if you want but it is sounding to me like you may have one of the motors that missed warranty work, many did becuase a lot of the cheaper oils will absorb a lot more moisture etc during the combustion process and appear to be at the correct level or closer to the level, as oils have changed over recent years more towards synthetic oils, the consumption is not masked any more thus you are getting a better picture of how much the motor is using. ALl motors use oil, just some more than others
