Hi everyone, my first post, and I'm hoping you can help me. Lurking on this forum has already helped me hugely through two Magnas and their quirks - thank you for that!

Having grown up with my Mum's Magna station wagons, then being given one last year, when my partner and I came to buy a "new" car, we were really thrilled to find a 1995 V6 manual wagon, with only 182k under its belt, and an engine that had been fully reconditioned 4 years ago. It handled like a dream, and we paid another $1800 to get it fully roadworthy (new windscreen, complete waterpump/timer replacement, and some other small things).

Two days after we picked up our newly-refurbished car, a P-plater smashed into it (didn't look before doing a U-turn on a highway, just slammed right into us), staving in the front driver's side, and we sadly watched it being towed away. The other driver is fully insured, but the assessor has written our car off and has offered us $2800 as a pay-out, which is a long way away from what we paid.

If anyone here could give me an estimate for what a 95 Magna Executive wagon, with 182 000 on the clock, brand new roadworthy, fairly recently-reconditioned V6 engine, close to spotless inside and out, might be worth, I'd be incredibly grateful! We can't seem to find another one for sale anywhere, and the insurance company are being [insert swear word of choice] about the value! Any proof of this would be extra, extra appreciated. We loved our car and we're both gutted to have lost her.

Thanks in advance!

Lets just say if you were to sell the car, no matter of the condition you wouldn't get over $1500 i'd presume.
Sadly 95' magnas just aren't worth much.

Trust me i'm surprised they offered you $2800 as things like condition and maintenence/ roadworthy don't come into it. They have set values for cars and i'd imagine 2800 is at the top end of an executive wagon from 1995.

IMO take it and run. If you like the magna/ verada range you could find yourselves a nice TH or perhaps even TJ exec for 2800+ onroads.

Oh, drat. I'd been told that the V6 manual was worth a fair bit more, since they were fairly desirable. Thanks for your response, though.:)

yes they are desirable if you have a choice between a 4cyl second gen magna and a 6cyl second gen magna... if you have a choice of everythign else most people will pick the everything else also keep in mind its a 17ish year old vehicle

Just for comparison, I bought an auto V6 TS wagon 5 years ago for $1,200. 192,000 km. It had a good original motor, gearbox and interior, but the paint was way past dead.

I'd take the money and use it towards a third gen wagon.

Cars depreciate, no matter how much money you put into them to keep them roadworthy or in modifications. Past 15 years of age they are not worth much.

Mine will stay in the family until it is 20 years old, then be sold for peanuts or sent to the wreckers, to be replaced by a third gen wagon. If I can't find a good third gen wagon, I will be looking at (*gasp*) a Commodore wagon.

The desirability/value to an enthusiast and market value are often yardsticks set far apart. In the market, there is little desirability for a 17 year old manual wagon, as rare or desirable it may seem to a niche enthusiast arena, unfortunately :(

Sorry for your loss, but dont despair, I see you've all ready got some, good advice I'm pretty much wih madmax on this .Option 1 -take the money and run, then look for a gen 3 wagon(much easier to find than a good gen 2) Option 2 take the money and run, then buy back the wreck (cheap as) then find a clean & staight KR or TS wagon with a stuffed motor & trans.(no shortage of them) contact mitsfix and get him(if he wants the job)to put your old motor & trans.into the second wagon. Option 3 take the money and run look for a good gen 3 wagon & while your looking(if you can, take your time)buy back the wreck and part it out(not allways possible, I know) motor & gearbox on there own are worth a lot more than the $300 or so buy back cost.Do your self a big favour & research Either way take the money and run before they change there mind. All the best, & welcome from one new member to another (I'm new to the club, but not Mitsubishi.) Harry..
