I noticed that my headlights are nowhere near as bright as they used to be in my Magna. I have IPF Fatboy H4 globes in my 4wd and these are a lot brighter. Recently a one of these blew so I bought a pair of Phillips +100 globes but only changed the blown one to compare. The Phillips seems almost as good as the IPF but at less than half the price.

This got me thinking that I should buy a pair to fit into the Magna. It is an Advance model so has the standard headlights. After doing some searching I found out that the high beams are H7 globes and the low beams are H4. On high beam the lights seem bright enough, its just on low beam they are dull, I'm think that the globes are worn out.

My question is do the H4s just run the low beam or do they also run the high beam as well? And has anyone compared the stock H7 globes to the Phillips +100 globes?

H4s are usually a dual filament bulb that do low beam as well as high beam.

I had Philips +50 bulbs on my Magna with parabolic lights (H1 and H7) before I went to HIDs and they were noticeably better than stock. My dad and my brother run Philips +80s on the H4s on their 4WDs (the +100s weren't out at the time), and again, a noticeable improvement from standard.

Check out www.powerbulbs.co.uk - they're UK based, but they're significantly cheaper than buying Australian stock of bulbs. They're reputable, and delivery doesn't take long (I think free delivery is a week or two).

If this doesn't satisfy you, it should be noted that Magna headlight wiring is pretty thin (check out the Headlight FAQ stickied at the top of this section). You'll gain a noticeable improvement in light output by installing relays and thicker wiring, even on standard wattage bulbs.

If you go ebay shopping $40 should buy you 2x H4 globes by phillips, have a look at the pics and get an Aussie seller and they are genuine.

I put +120s in 2 days ago... didn't notice too much improvement, some but not massively, beam seems more focused. Nfi what the old globes were tho.

I put the one spare Phillips +100 in and I can now say that they have nothing on the IPF Fatboys. The IPF globes are much bigger and put out a brighter light that is not as white/blue as the Phillips. I just wish the IPF globes were not $160 a pair and lasted longer.
