Hey guys..
well i washed my VRX today as i noticed the clear coat on the spoiler is going a bit funny, a few small bubbles in 2 places..what can i do to fix this ? or prevent it? or simply do i need to get the clear coat re-done? i assume the clear can be sanded back and re-done? It will simply annoy me if i don't get it fixed.
Should i be worried about the rest of the car ? or because the spoiler is plastic is that prone to happen more on plastic surfaces
Help would be appreciated.

I'm assuming the "search" function is broken, because this has been covered a trillion times.
"i assume the clear can be sanded back and re-done?"
No. Impossible to do this without cutting through the colour coat.
"Should i be worried about the rest of the car ?"
Yes. Other horizontal surfaces will do the same in due time.

i don't have any pics.
its not too bad, the paint is good everywhere else, should i polish the car to help? the car lives outside , i don't have a choice.
i have seen other magna's of the same era with roof paint all gone, my car has been well looked after , i may just polish the whole car and the spoiler and prolong as much of it as i can, if worst comes to worse i will remove the wing all together and get the holes welded up, or just respray it when it gets bad.
*waits for car detailing experts to arrive with the correct washing and waxing techniques*

If it's already starting to bubble/peel, no amount of detailing can fix it - just get it resprayed.
Yes, if your car lives outside, regular detailing will assist in prolonging the life of your paintwork.

Firstly the paint is mostly affected by the sun & as the sun really cooks through the spoiler & usually mirrors as they are enclosed & the heat can't get to radiate away, they are usually affected first. Followed by the boot, bonnet & roof then the rest. The first thing I think of is can I justify taking it to a spray shop & spending large amounts of cash on a vehicle that is 11 years old? Well I can't, but I can get the paint codes on the VIN plates & get a pressure pack of colour mixed & a clear coat then have a got at it myself. Especially on the spoiler as it’s easy to take it off & rub down with wet sandpaper. If you get a few runs then just do it again. Get rid of the rough stuff then a coat of colour or two, A wet sand between coats then a couple of coats of clear. Now this is far from perfect but it will prolong the appearance of the car & costs very little. There is another thread that MadMax gave some excellent advice on paint & a good link to a you tube vid on spraying with pressure packs, use the search for clear coat.
I have a TF with the silver metallic paint that the paint is completely shot on, especially here in Nth QLD; too late I'll just have to dispose of the vehicle. I then picked up a pretty reasonable TJ from Port Macquarie NSW that the paint isn't gone on yet, I keep it under a car cover to prolong the paint life. Most of the TJ's in Nth QLD are already shot. I also have a TL that has lived in Nth QLD for 7 years & it isn't doing to well, but its white & not a metallic paint so doesn't look to bad yet.

I had the same problem on my TW vrx, few years went past and the bootlid is immaculate, but the rear spoiler lost its clear coat to the elements im guessing, all original paint/panels too, so i removed it :)

Seen the same on a sable black Lancer. Paint is perfect all over the car, but the spoiler has lost most of the clear. Could it be that spoilers in general are a dealer installed option, and painted up locally with poor(er) quality clear?
Just an idea . . .
Mica containing paints seem to hold out better. My Starlight TL still has perfect paint. Fingers crossed.

quite possible ! :), although with my case mine is vrx n came factory with a spoiler in that "Sapphire blue",
so i was very surprised for a TW, what only 2004, how shocking the spoiler went against the rest of the car which was immaculate,
besides where n tear (stone chipps :@), iv still got it floating around in my room and the top of it is nearly "matte" finish haha and the underneath of it is "showroom perfect" Sapphire blue,
i always thought it was a combination between the harsh elements and the quality of the TL/TW spoilers, :/

What colour is the spoiler Saffire ?

Yes Sapphire Blue Pearl like mine and I noticed my spoiler is also showing signs of age. It is a lot rougher than the rest of the car with tiny pitting in the clearcoat. Also this is not a Mitsu issue. Saw a 2005+ Audi A5 in dark grey colour with the clearcoat stripping along the roof and boot lid.

My spoiler is that red/bronze colour, few mths on it still isn't too bad but i think i wanna get either the whole thing removed and holes filled and bootlid painted, or get a bootlid in same colour off an exec and have no bootlid at all.
thoughts? never really a fan of spoliers to begin with as they "spoil" the cars looks haha...

Up to you.... some people reckon original looks best, others prefer the Ralliart wing, others prefer no wing at all... it's your car, do what you want :)
(and for the record, I reckon the original wing looks best)

Agreed!, although "I" prefer to drop the spoiler on a TL/W hides the great but discreet lip on their boot lids

Been covered lots of times. Basically need bumper as well due to shape changes where the lid meets the bumper. The lights are also a tad different.
