I have just had an engine light appear for no given reason. Everything appears intact. No nasty noises, temp all good, all fluids appear ok and still drives as normal... so wtf ?? Any ideas?

Is it on limp mode? If not, and if you don't have the OBDII stuff to look at/clear it, you could maybe leave it for a day or two. I recall reading here, that it will clear itself after ~200km (?) if the original problem is no longer there.
I only had 1 CEL and it went away by itself.

Can be a front cat in the exhaust that needs replacing too.

maybe a oxygen sensor but not a full cat
need to read the code though because without that could be anything??

Well I did not say that they last for ever. YOU DID!
But it would be more likely for something else to cause it a CEL.

If you have a smart phone, Why dont you get a Ebay OBD2 Bluetooth adaptor and the torque app....
Or ask a mate who has it.. Its a seriously cool tool to have....
I did, 13.00 for the adaptor and 5 for the app!...

hi can you link to the one you purchased? And with the 380 is the diagnostic port in a spot that you can leave the adaptor fitted all the time (ie it doesn't get in the way?)

I may ring up Ultrahoon tomorrow and see if they have diagnostics to look at this. Economy, power etc seem to be all ok so I am a little stumped. Maybe it is having a hissy fit after we were looking at new cars this arvo :eek2:

I think I would notice if there was a cat in the exhaust. Drop of power, noise in the exhaust and an evil smell too. OK sorry I'm a smart @r$e

I have just deleted some of the most stupid comments I have seen since some douch was telling a member to overhaul a seat belt. Quite frankly I am over these comments as are many members who simply want information.
If you donk have a proper fix etc, don't post because if you do post don't be surprised when you find yourself with a months break from AMC. Enough is enough of the spam and the BS

OK I officially hate the CEL. I hopped in the car to take it to the fantastic crew at Ultratune Lakehaven (plug) and the light had gone out. Not to be deterred I still went there and it seems that it was something to do with the air intake butterfly not behaving. Will give it a clean and a light spray of WD40 on the shaft ends and all should be good. Thanks for all the input. It was a difficult question to ask as there could have been any amount of answers to it.

Lite version is Free and does a lot. Pro version has more features and is only $5. Blurb says Lite version will reset fault codes, but I've never tried it.
