got motor changed by mechanic but my air con is not working now was fine before. compressor is not kicking in, tried running a short across plug, fan came on and off when i removed short but compressor did not kick in. so i am assuming gas is not the issue, checked fuses in engine bay marked as a/c there fine, checked if there was any power at compressor and there is not.
Any suggestions on what to check next must be something silly as was working before engine swap.

Take back to mechanic. Not your job!

They are happy to fix it but are an hour drive away so would prefer to sort it without having to go there.

Air con is not generally something you can sort out on a forum, can be so many issues, you will save much more than an hour by taking it back

Oh i understand the issue but it is probably best just to take it back, Because you have no idea of the extent at which something could have happened, i'd leave it to them as they are responsible, if you go touching things and still can't get it working they might say you stuffed it. Could be very simple issue too.

Are you sure the fusable link and internal fuse are ok. Take them out and test with a multimeter.

Did they remove the A/C compressor or simply hold it outof the way? If they removed it, maybe they haven't regassed it. If so, or if the unit has lost its gas, there are pressure lockouts to ensure that the compressor cannot run without gas.

Is it plugged in? There's a plug for the clutch on it.

sounds like no gas as the a/c compressor will not kick in with no gas "my tj did it and had it check there was no gas"

Thanks for all the comments. I had some time today to actually check it out properly and there IS power going to compressor and after having a look around there is another conector on top of the compressor (not the orange one on the side its after that) one of the two wires had been pulled out of the conector a little. So had to drop the compressor and put it back in properly. And ac works again. when motor went in it must have dragged the top of compressor slightly and pulled the wire. So all good thanks

Well they didnt forget about it cos you would not have to undo it. Only the main orange plug would need to be undone. They must have knocked it while putting motor in as it is on top of the compressor.

Cool..

I was just asking because I thought crackajnr may have assisted you with that.

Good to see its fixed.

Like I said earlier.. If you do have issues or anything like that and you see we have DIY Day's in the QLD section, you're more than welcome to pop in as a club member and we will all assist in anyway we can!
