Just thought I would show a few pics on some of the turbo gear that
I will be putting in my car in the coming weeks.
Still waiting on BOV and FPR unit though. :doubt:
The setup (placement of turbo) will be very similar to that of 'BOOYAS' as this seems to
be the best spot for it to sit.

Good luck with the install ... should be fun, lotsa late nights :P
I know I had a blast. I will be interested in how you go with the turbo timer and the engine immobiliser, as I would like to fit one too :).

give us a price on the components and don't forget to TAKE PICTURES STEP BY STEP and give us a run down of how to do it...:D Others want turbo's too :D

didn't realise you where turbo too, have you got any performance figures dyno or 1/4 mile runs?

is that all you need ?
dont need forged pistons, heaps of **** to make the engine cope with the excess pwr ?

Not at very low boost levels. But whos gonna stay there for long huh ;) forgies here we come :)

Running low boost to begin with (no more than 7 Psi)
Hopefully not long after that I will be getting pistons and a decompression head gasket etc.
Current turbo specs:
-T04E 550hp Single Turbo
-Tial 35mm External Wastegate
-Greddy E-Manage ECU with Additional injector, ignition harnesses & pressure sensor
-600 x 300 x 76 Front Mount Intercooler
-Apexi Turbo Timer
-VDO Boost Gauge
-RPW Fuel pressure regulator
-Bosch 173L/Hr Fuel Pump
-Custom Piping
Mods already done:
-K & N Oval air filter
-Performance muffler 3.5"
-Whiteline Flatout Lowering Springs
-Whiteline Rear sway bar & front strut brace
-DBA x-Drilled & Slotted Gold Disc Rotors
-Bendix Ultima Brake Pads
-17" AMG Rims
-Heavy Duty Engine mount
are u just bolting on without decompressing first ??
Wooduck
15-08-2004, 12:06 PM
Yeah,
As long as you don't wind up the boost it's fine.
However I may decompress before I Install the turbo as it's not really a big job to do this.

Dude - where is all the piping?? your missing it all ;) hahaha (cooler piping / intake manifold / zorst manifolds) etc
Is it all getting custom made or what??
Manual
all good then,
i was quoted $600 to put on decompression plates, thats supplied and fitted
iw as thinkin of just doin that and running low boost until can afford forgies

Piping will be custom made when we begin the install (Exaust manifold/intercooler pipes etc)
Hoses & clamps etc will be done as well.
I will provide as much info & images on the install as possible.

MEH: instaed of using decompression plates, can you use a thicker head gasket?

Major work starts in about two weeks as the installer is away until then.
Hopefully get the ECU wired and tuned before then.
Fuel system is being done now.
We were supposed to start it about 3 weeks ago but some parts hadn't arrived yet etc etc.

hey
what did the setup cost ya ?
can ya list what parts are needed for this kind of mod ?
also if not to much trouble what its gonna cost for all the piping ?
because i really dont have a clue what it takes to 'turbo' a car.
but am quite interested
cheers

i thought u cant decompress with a plate or extra gaskets due to the V6 design, lifting the heads up also moves them outwards so the intake manifold even if lifted also, wont match up
also too-slow and meh, have u gone through depts of transport in your states ? what have they said u require to be approved roadworthy??

All things considered I'd agree however seeing as though there's going to be turbo manifolds on the exhause port, I'd say there could be something being rigged up for the inlet side of things too.

There will be tolerance in the manifold enuf to drop compression a little. But I am not going to bother. I will be rebuilding the engine with forged pistons etc, and may get it bored out to say 3.1 or 3.2 litres :)
I hope to keep the 9:1 compression, and still run 14-16psi reliably.

I have the car being engineered. I had hoped to upgrade the brakes prior, but I haven't found a full set of AWD brakes from the wreckers yet, so may have to go with RPW ones when cash flow permits (I have to buy a verada for the missus in the next 2 months, part of the deal for me turboing mine :)).
The engineer has seen the car, we just have some work on the front bar to complete, and he'll sign off on it. Then I'll have no probs with defect notices :)

i suppose u could decompress at the heads and still bolt up manifold, but it would create some port mismatching/overlap , never good..
so did the engineer specify bigger brakes? all wheels or front only? when i did a transplant to much bigger more powerful engine on my datsun all that was required for rego was front brake upgrade, thing is that i did it in SA and the transport dept couild say from the outset waht they needed and what was allowed. Here in WA they wont tell u BEFOREHAND what they want done for a turbo conversion on a magna.
so u take a chance and they might say it needs nothing, they mightsay it needs just better brakes (that id do anyway) or they might want bloody ladder bars if whoever inspects it didnt get laid last night
what state are u in btw?

I am only going to upgrade the fronts. The engineer said I don't need it, but it does look alot better on the report. He would still pass it so to speak without em, but I would like em listed. He's also listing the tyres, rims, and the ride height :)
I have a possible four piston set from a GTO ... just verifying what is required to make em fit
Oh, and the engineer has been involved from the outset. Letting us know what he wants/needs to sign it off.

arhh 1 more thing when ya first do it best to keep it as a sleeper till ya can get permits orginised cuz they're a ***** 2 get for these kind mods $300 for an enginering certificate for ya motor and $200 for one for a brake upgrade. They are doable just ****ing hard to get

BTW does anyone know what a standard Xi quarter mile time is? im guessing around 16s 15s am i right i have a race against a VH Turbo (yes i said VH i dnt mean VL) it runs 16.7

Roughlly looking at 10-12 grand for a propper twin turbo installation. Thats just engine machanicals, then there is question of the reliabillity of the auto gearbox . While no one knows for sure yet how much power you can run through the auto boxes till they pack up shop, estimates are around 200-250kW at the engine. If you really wanted forced induction, look at converting to a manual transmission (again another costlly excersize) meaining aftermarket ECU would be needed.

If yours is a KE verada then it makes 147kW at the flywheel :P . The most powerfull Verada is the TJ-TJ GTV(i) with 163kW
