View Full Version : Correct behaviour of TJ/KJ feet & front mode air vents?

Hey guys,

I noticed something I'm not sure is correct with my GTV this morning. Was pretty cold so I flicked the heater onto medium fan and the vent direction to feet and center. I noticed after a while my dress boots were getting very hot but my face was very cold. Hit the button (KJ2 Digital Climate Control) for just face/center vents and got blasted with very hot air out all the front vents. Back to feet, very little (But still a little bit of) air out of any of the centre vents but plenty on the footwell vents.

Is this expected behaviour? I can post up a shot of the modes on the screen where this happens if it isn't clear.

There are wheels next to the vents in the center (above radio/heater controls). The left adjust the amount of air coming out and the right ones allows fresh air to come directly in from outside without getting heated, try turning that one.

My KJ does the same thing, as did my KE.

My KH does the same. Flick the little wheel next to the vent up and it'll fix it :)

Hah really? I'll give that a go now, I wouldn't have thought that function would be related!

From memory, its the one closest to the driver. It should be blue and grey.

It is designed to keep you awake while keeping your feet warm. :)

Unsurprisingly, as is pretty common on these cars, my switch there is pretty much broken. There's almost no play in it, you can move the wheel like a quarter and it's really stiff. I know it pulls a physical cable back there, and I also know it was mentioned in the GTV review from 2002 that the Veradas were often like that from factory. I didn't realise that was related to this issue though.

It just confuses me because it always blasts cool air out of both vents but when it switches to hot air it stops pushing out the centre vents without changing the vent mode. I'm still not quite clear on the logistics of why it does this.

that cable switches a flap in the heater box to redirect the air flow...climb under the dash a look for the purple/blue cable and see where it attaches to the box...maybe it needs readjusting on the mount clip...or get another top vent from u-pull-it.
