Hi all.
I managed to shred my front left tyre tonight. Currently running on the spare but I need a new tyre ASAP.
Specs are 215/55/R17
What's a reasonably-priced tyre that I can get? Looking for a fitter in the northern suburbs too.
Cheers :)

What's your definition of reasonably priced?
Would you prefer something long lasting or something that handled better?

Probably something middle-of-the-road would suit me I think.

I have much love for a kumho KU31 but I dont know the cost in that size.
you can always get the more common 225/50 17 which would be cheaper

Would a 225/50/R17 fit on to the rim?

I ran Michelin mxv8 for a long time, much better than oem tyres, comfortable on the sports suspension too.
Check out the price though...

225/50/17 does fit on the 17x7 inch rim, it also gives you access to more/better brands and patterns.

Good to know. Of course I assume I will have to change both front tyres if I go different measurements?

Ku31 or federal 595ss are best value tyres on the market. Don't think you're a racer in the wet though... Especially the 595, you still need to be careful but if you don't flog your car they are very safe and affordable

By law you have to have the same size all around (unless it comes factory like that) so technically you have to change the whole set to go a bigger size or its canary material.

I also ran these, awesome tyre. Nice and quiet too. They were a bit expensive when I got my set, they may have dropped in price how ever....

I'm now running these

but if your are going to skimp, tyres are not the things to skimp on....

Well now that that politically correct thing is said, the best bang for the minimun dollar would lie the achilles brand, they even make a tyre in your size, as for a reveiw think Kuhmo KU31 just quieter, with 90% of the performance and probably 60-80% of the price. Achilles ATR
The reasons for safety on the 380 of mine is the Mrs and kid often take a long drive up Qld's most dangerous stretch of highway...

yeah dont run a 225/50 17 with a 215/55 17 the car will not be nice to drive
I was using 225/50 17 on the front and 18s inch rims on the back til I could get a new KU31 in 18 inch
BTW I do not recommend Bridgestone Turanza ER300. Poor wet weather performance AND dry performance is meh after 5000 kms

Yeah there's MXV's on the car now so I might just go with that. What places sell them for a decent price?

I have Toyo Teos 215s on my series 3 SX. My regular Tyrepower place considers them a good choice for the 380. I've been happy with my current set and will be getting a new set later this year.

Jaxx seem to have the MXV cheaper when I looked, but that was a while ago..

I have 225/50 17 Goodyear Eagle F1s, got them off of Ebay jst before xmas last year. Got them for $700 for the set from a tyre place in Melbourne, was about $860 all up with freight + fit and bal for 4 tyres. Check out Ebay, just type in 225/50 17, there are some pretty good deals about. Pirelli P7s are a pretty good tyre, a mate got over 50,000kms on his Accord Euro and was very happy with them. I am vey happy with the goodyears and will definitely get a set of the high end ones again - when they have another one of their 'buy 3 get one free deals'. I had the P7s on my TJ before it got written off and was happy with the grip they had. They have a much higher load rating at 98 and give a bit better turn in, which I am fairly sure is due to the extra stiffness in the sidewalls.

yep there are, they were manufactured in germany in mid 2011. So despite being supposedly out of production they were still making them. I think they are all gone now as Goodyear are selling an updated model. The deal I got off ebay was pretty good but I would have got the latest version if I had known they were only slightly dearer at the time - goodyear was running the buy 3 get 1 free deal they run atleast once a year. normally about Oct....
They are still a good tyre, and only until they ran out of stock, they could be had for a steal.
The new generation Eagle ASYM2 or Eagle directional are just superb tyres. Without a doubt they will be the next tyres on my car

Just replacing my BJ Zenon's which have done 80000 and 85000 kms, and two of them could do another 20k km. I'm fitting Mastercraft avenger touring lsr on. Made by Cooper in the USA. Size is 225/55/17. Treadwear is a massive 780, so should last nearly forever.

How do they grip?
I don't understand how these tyres are lasting so long. Must be like driving on granite, especially under the weight of the 380.

Look them up, they are fantastic tyre, not like on granite at all, why would I want to do that? The 380 is a family car so doesn't get the same tyres as my XR8. It's been three years of daily driving and trips so no complaints and they were still fantastic in the wet on the weekend on our way back from Albury. I'll either get these or Michelin, which can do the same great grip and longevity, very soon.

I just tried to get a price on some more Turanza ER300 to replace my existing set that I have been happy with. I have been told that they are now discontinued.
I was instead just quoted $229 each on a set of Turanza T001 tyres.
Has anybody tried these or know anything about Turanza T001?

My 380 came with a set of 10,000km old BJ Zenons on it, I would say they are a long life-low grip tyre. I am sick of the bloody things squealing around corners...
I've played with pressures with no success.
They still look like new but I'm about to rip them off for something decent.

I was running Pirelli P7's on my LS rims (17 x 7) and they were very sure footed and the wear rate was outstanding. They are probably at the top end of the price range though.

I was running 38psi. seemed fine with good ride quality. Now with the 245/40 R18 Goodyear F1 Eagle Directional, running 38 also. Very smooth and quiet.

Just put Sumitomo HTR Z3s on my 380. absolutely brilliant. best thing is the lack of noise that i had with the old kumhos even when the kuhmos were new.
