Hey guys.
Background info: Never heard this knock before, installed coilovers yesterday.
Issue: After about 1 hour of driving with the coilovers the car started to develope a knocking noise from the drivers side front wheel area. The knock occurs when i change gears or suddenly accellerate from a stable speed. knocking is louder when changing gears then any other time. Knocking doesn't seem to occur when i go over bumps, just when i suddenly speed up, no matter what gear i change into. (upshift only)
The knock seems to happen as i change gear then doesn't occur again until i do it again or accellerate.
I tried adjusting damper on my front coilovers but it doesn't matter if i have them very hard ot very soft the knocking still occurs which makes me think it isn't the new suspension.
It's getting really annoying, almost feels like any sudden power is causing a CV to knock like it is loose or something, so odd. Toook the wheel off and tightened all the bolts but it all seems to be tight. :/
ANY help would be appreciated.

First thing I would do is remove the coil overs from the front and put back in the originals, this will then exclude a faulty Coil Over or damper
You have stated everything is tight, with a lot of these things the upper bolt hole is a lot larger, have seen these slip. I would check you have the proper torque on the 2 bolts that hold the lower strut onto the knuckle and also the top nuts on the upper plates as well.

I have the same thing happening in my gto, different brand of coilovers but yes same thing, only seem to happen on hard acceleration.

Sooo... i found the source while checking for an oil leak.

...I'm such a dickhead.
Now does anybody know what part of my engine is leaking oil? IT's covering my sump and dripping down the back of it.
When my engine mount died, it turned out to be oil filled.
See if this is where your fluid is coming from too. (fingers crossed it is).

Check your cam seal. Also rocker cover gaskets

Thanks i am hoping its a rocker cover gasket as my car seals were replaced last year!
Do you know if they removed the rocker covers when they changed the cam seal? A mechanic once told me he could change the cam seal without removing the rocker cover but not sure how that is possible?

its not the swaybar bushes? or cv's? my car has had these knocks before the coilovers

i have a feeling a cv has an issue. Not real confident around that part of the car though.

Why not rule out the coil overs? Just because they are new does not mean one does not have an issue

Because i really don't think it is them and would prefer not to go through that agaib especially by myself.... Then i also need another wheel alignment and there is no local susprnsion shop that they can drive my car without scraping my front bar so i have to drive 40 minutes

Up to you but think about it, you will chase your tail when the thing you changed were the coil overs. Only need to do fronts, drive around the block to rule them out.
Also when you fitted them did you reset all your bush positions

What in the coilover could be causing a knock only when there is a change in momentum? I figured a shock would be the only thing that would cause such a sound but i presume then it would happen over bumps rather then when i change gears, as soon as my clutch hits the friction point it makes the side knock.
If i take the wheel off can i just try tighten the CV shaft by using the nut on the end? Or does it not work that way?

If I remember correctly.. 32mm on the CV nut.. Don't quote me though..
Hayden.. Any issues with the coil over text me straight away and I'll get Mr Kido onto it for ya..

Did you remove the drive shaft nut at all during install, if so I can not for the life of me understand why you would have done that lol
You need to look at exactly what had just been done when this sound started, this will give you a starting point of where to look. Yes is strange that this is only happening on accel and de accel so may point to a gearbox or drive shaft issue but make sure if you are going to be tightening anything drive line related you use the proper torque wrench settings including on the drive shafts Also make sure you loosen anything you are going to check to see if that item is tight before you get out the torque wrench

Did you check your sway bar bushes..?
Have you taken a look at the gearbox mount too..?
Mal's on the money though.. Take the front coilovers out and put the original struts in.. Can't hurt to rule out the coilovers..
Could it possibly be the CV on its way out..? Due to the car being lower now.. Geometry has changed and is placing more load on a weak spot of the CV..
Just taking stabs from a distance here..

Think it developed over big bumps on my first spirited drive with the coils in. Ill need to take the car to a mech. I don't have the tools.
