Sorry - just realised I posted to the wrong Forum!!!
Reposting to correct. What an EEEDIOT:nuts:

Hi Guys, Sorry if I just can't find the answer but did try search etc.
Battery got changed on TH Magna 3.5 over weekend but since change the car keeps stalling at idle or low speeds.
Is there some reset to do? (99.9999% sure have the right battery type in there!)

Cheers
Tim

So I guess, looking for a FAQ on HT reset the idle...

AFAIK when dis-connecting the battery for a extended period it resets the ECU and it can stall for a while afterwards whilst it re-learns haha. If thats time has passed and it is still stalling I got no idea =]

Thanks Always...

Any advise on how long 'a while' could be...how long or what driving conditions will help it 'relearn' and settle back to normal.

Cheers

I don't think it _should_ do that, but mine does that while it learns the idle speed after I've had the battery off... Perhaps my TB is clogged or someone has f'd with the preset screws at some point.
I think it usually clears up in a few days. If im in traffic etc I try to keep my foot on the accel. a bit at the lights but I don't think that helps it learn an idle point and it keeps trying to go lower. Usually go for a drive around home at night at operating temperature and just let it stall itself when I stop and start it up and drive for another few mins and stop/stall till it sorts itself out.
There is also a correct procedure to follow to help the gearbox learn shift points a bit better after the batterys been off.

Thanks Timi,
I guess the problem isn't shifting gear, it does that just fine. It's the idle speed and it stall at low/no speed. On the go it's fine. So would the gearbox procedure actually help, or just serve to probably stuff up something else!!

As background, totally don't mess with the car (it's my wifes), no changing settings, modifications etc, always serviced at Mitsubishi...it's even still got the factory head unit with CD changer!!
Just thought, how hard can it be to change the battery? Done it hundreds of times. Fail fail fail. My wife hates me now. Reminds me, must post to FML..
Mitsubishi Service dept said they need to plug something in to the car...so have to book it in...I'm just hoping there's something else to try.

The shift pattern just makes the changes smoother, faster, as it learns your driving style after a reset.
I fix mine by taking it for a drive and letting it stall itself when I stop and eventually it just stops trying to idle too low.

That sounds like what we're experiencing...when you stop it stalls.
How long does it normall take to right itself?
I guess trying to think at what point I give up and taking it to dealer.

mines usually ok after a day or two, maybe one stall as it warms up for a few days though.

Hi All,
Well, just to let you know if did come right after a few days...pretty weird.
Idle is still rough as guts...but at least it doesn't stall.
Anything to do about the idle roughness??

Just make sure you havent bumped any hoses or leads off when you were replacing the Battery...

Also, don't forget to turn on the air con while teaching the ECU!
I remember having driven in the evening to have the car relearn everything, then woke up in the morning on my way to work and stalled the car in peak traffic when i turned the air con on.

Also, don't forget to turn on the air con while teaching the ECU!.

Ahhh. No. Didn't do that. So what...should I repeat the whole process? :gtfo:

No, its fine. When you turn on the Air con the revs might drop though, causing the car to stall.
Not sure if this is the correct way to do it, but I simply start the car and have my foot slightly on the pedal when i turn the air con on and keep it in the 750 when i turn the air con on. I do that for a couple of minutes, then restart the car and when it idles properly with aircon then take her for a drive. Can anyone clarify? ^^
