Hi guys

Got Lugo's Kl GTV interior in the kj now and wondering what to do about the front seat airbags.

If I take them out, is that an easy dyi?

Also has anyone ever tried to hook them up so they do work, what's involved, new ecu, is there even a connection under the passenger seat to hook up?

Any help much appreciated, cheers

There is no legal requirement to keep them, since the TJ never had them. Retrofitting the TJ i could imagine would be a PITA. Parts of the SRS system would need to be swapped over. I.e. the airbag detonators would need to know when to deploy in a side impact.

Further to this, airbags arr HIGHLY dangerous. As well as being an explosive device, the chemicals inside are fatal if inhaled in large quantities

There's no connection for them to be hooked up to.

Best bet is to remove them if you're concerned about the legal side of things. Just get the side retrimmed to cover the hole that's left. (That's what my plan is when I get around to it.)

not sure if it applies to cars as well.. but with boats I think there is a rule that if something is fitted it must be in working condition
e.g. if you have navigation lights on your boat but no battery, even though you are out in the day, you can get in trouble for them not functioning.
but if you take the lights off its fine as long as you're not out at night.

I got them running in my wagon along with the pre tensioned seat belts

True, but I doubt that Pete is willing to go to the trouble & expense that it would cost him to follow your example. :)

It's not just as simple as swapping a few looms over, is it? Wouldn't it need a full interior loom swap over plus ECU & SRS ECU? Plus the seat belt tensioners.

Yes, HUGE job and to be honest if I could do it myself I would go ahead. I will either take the bags out and re-trim like Al or just leave. :) Thanks fellas
