Howdy folks,

Next on the mods list for my TL Magna is some springs, but I need some advice. I don't like "Fulleee Sik" cars and prefer more of a sleeper look. Think the difference between a HSV R8 and a HSV Senator; one of them looks really garish and the other one looks...subtle.

My other car is a 2007 XR6 Turbo (BFII) with factory 18" rims. I like the look of that car and am very happy with the wheel arch clearance. I'd like to achieve a similar look with the Magna, and I'd also like to stay within the law as best as possible.

So, what's the best springs to fit? I was thinking King Springs low front and rear (KCFL-42 and KCRL-43) and keeping the stock shocks for a little while.

Note that one thing that already annoys me about the Magna is the extremely long nose, and this may affect what I buy. The XR6 turbo has a shorter nose on it, and I'm used to knowing how to *just* scrape gutters while parking with that car without damaging anything. However the Magna - which is not yet lowered - seems to scrape gutters as much as the XR6 does because the nose is longer and reaches father out to the gutter when parking it. When I lower it, things could get worse fast! I'm thinking this means super lows are a bad idea.

P.S. I don't mind if the car is slightly higher at the rear than the front when it's unloaded.

Lows all round is the best option when lowering imo.

The solution to your clearance problem is to reverse into parks (as the back has a lot more clearance) or know when to stop short lol

For starters I would advise against SL no matter what you want to do with the car.

I do both King and Dobinsons, can get either 30 or 45mm drops in both, personally I think the Dobinsons suit the Magna the best.

Thanks guys I'll have a look at Dobinsons too. What makes them different to Kings - appearance or handling?

I should say I'm NOT looking for a spine-jarring ride. Progressive would be my preference.

Psh, I'm way to girly for such shenanigans. You should see me try to back up a trailer - one day someone will post a video to YouTube and the world will laugh and laugh...

When I first got the Magna, I parked the thing sideways for about a month because I was used to the visual cues of my XR6, which are completely different. "Straight" in the Ford works out to "15 degree angle and rear wheel on the curb" in the Magna.
