Open it with the key. If it doesn't open, which is unlikely, something is physically broken inside the locking mechanism. I haven't heard of that happening before.
If it does open, then it is obviously your remote release, which is far more common. Check the following, in order:
1. The white lock switch, flick it obviously to free, if it isn't already.
2. Try remote opening it with the switch in your glovebox or wherever you have one. I'm assuming by the way you've already been trying with your remote.
3. I'm not sure if there is a fuse specifically responsible for this function but check fuses I guess.
4. With the boot open, put your head in close to the left hand side of the boot, and then hit the button on your remote. Do you hear a mechanical noise? It will be clearly audible.
If you hear the noise, the solenoid is firing, which means your boot release cable has almost certainly snapped. Time for a trip to the wreckers.
If you don't hear the noise, the solenoid is not firing, which means your solenoid has almost certainly burnt out. Time for a trip to the wreckers.

thanks jakeys and whippy
managed to get it open, but internally as my key barrel is stuffed
the solenoid fires and the mechanisim moves, but the mechanisim for the boot release only moves a tiny bit??? seems as if the motor that controlls it is shot(the one near the antenna)
and the boot cable moves and the button/remote work but again the mechanisim for the boot release only moves a tiny bit

update
may have fixed it as i unscrewed the boot motor to check the cable and once i played with the mechanisim that pulls the cable(moved it manually) it started working again
so im guessing that my motor must be playing up!
