Hey guys now that I have fitted the tow pack I picked up from Malcolm, I've noticed that the wiring loom emits a "buzzz" for 5 seconds when the car is in reverse.

Is this some kind of poor mans' reversing alarm? Why only 5 seconds?

I don't have that buzz on any of my Magna's. All fitted with tow bars too. Never heard it on any others either. Are you sure it's the loom & not the plug itself - or the wiring into the plug?

Have never heard of this, this was a genuine harness

maybe look back over what youve done and make sure you got it wired right

What else in the back of the car could make a 5 second buzz?

Exhaust touching the towbar perhaps?

Get someone to stand behind the car when you engage reverse and try to track the noise down. Possibly with boot open, handbrake on (so you don't run over your helper lol)

Wow so not normal, eh? I have heard of reverse buzzers before so I figured this was the same thing. I'll go take a closer look then!

It was a factory harness connector, so I'm not sure what would have been missed. It was literally plug and play.

i'm glad you have diagnosed the problem :-) it's the worst when you can't identify an annoying noise

If you try to put an auto 3rd gen magna/verada in gear when it's off, the car will emit a 'buzzing' sound for a few seconds (has nothing to do with towbar wiring). Is that the sound you're talking about?

Perhaps record the sound and upload to net.

Ah. It's nothing to do with the tow pack.

So when I connected it all up, I put the ignition to "ON" and put the car in reverse to check the reverse lights. The noise is coming from the transmission, like some kind of motorised gear selector? It does it when I put the gear selector in R, D, or shift it from 1st to second using the tippy.

Also "5 seconds" was an exaggeration. It's more like less than two.

WINNER! You said that just before I posted it.

lol beat you to it.

As far as I know, that noise is normal. My KF does it (4 speed auto).

Mal would probably be able to explain what it is.

Solenoids in the trans? (There was a post about that noise some time ago IIRC)

Mine does it too. I think it's the electrics attempting to change the gear (R to forward, and back) but it's not doing anything as there is no power from the engine to engage them?
