My '98 V6 magna has been running crap on occasions, especially at start up and lower rpm. Thought I fixed the problem when I found the heater core had been leaking onto the ecu which had been previously wrapped in a plastic bag, and the water/coolant had been pooling inside the bag. Anyway, my brother inlaw is a motor mechanic and this is what came up on his engine diognostic thingy today. Just wondering if this could be caused by the ecu playing up and/or maybe something else within the wiring to the injectors? Has any one out there seen this fault come up.

Oh, and it's on lpg but it still runs crap when switching over to petrol. Even when it is having it's low rpm problems, driving at hwy speeds it's fine until I either stop or slow down. At lower speeds it's felt as a slight hickup/hesitation.

First bet if cheapish or have another available is try another ECU.. Sounds like that is the cause.

If that doesn't help I'd be looking at the injectors to see if their fouling up or buggered. Including also looking at the electronics back to the ECU.

If it is crap on LPG as well as petrol, it is more than likely to be spark issues. Probably HT leads. Get into a dark area (inside a garage at night with no lights on) and open the bonnet and gun the engine. Look for signs of sparks jumping from the leads to earth or to each other. I have had sparks going to earth and also on other occasions, I could see the spark going down the inside of the HT leads.

Check the gap in the spark plugs. If you run on LPG, the engine runs hotter and the gap can open up. Spark plug makers recommend closing the gap by about 0.1 mm below that recommended for petrol.

You may well still have issues with the ECU, but I would check the spark first.

I'm with erad on this. Unless you have a open loop lpg system (one that uses the ecu readings to control the flow of lpg) , then a faulty ecu shouldn't really cause problems with the lpg system as well. A lpg engine should have spark plugs that are smaller gapped than factory ones and colder too. I run a set of iridium IX spark plugs I bought off ebay for $60. The ones I bought were BKR7EIX as they had a 0.1mm smaller gap and were colder by one unit. My system has been pretty flawless and I've never had any issues with misfiring & backfiring. (I've only got a problem with surging during cold mornings but that's related to something else completely.)

My sister had this exact problem in her TF, it turned out to be a wire to the injectors.
Check out the thread I created for it, I included a video and a picture of the problem wire:

*Oops.. it appears the video has been lost.. but basically the car had trouble idling and stalled at low rpm.

Thanks for your input and ideas guys. I reckon you're on the money Shamous69. I thought I wasn't gonna get it started when I left work today but it finally did, ran crap for a few seconds then came good. Had not one problem all the way home on my 1hr country drive. These problems that are intermittent shit me to tears because It will run perfectly for a few days then I'll probably end up stranded on the side of the road somewhere. I've got tomorrow and monday off so there's time to do a bit of fault finding. Even if I either stuff something up or don't get the car ready I still have the bike to ride to work at least. If I find the problem I'll post it so hopefully others can get a bit of help from this. Definately going look at what you suggested Shamous69.

Just scored a '97 V6 sports from around the corner for $50! Great for getting the parts I need. It's been sitting there for a few years and now I have a magna I thought I'd leave a note in their mail box. Well, the lady rang about half an hour ago and said $50. She was more concerned her husband took some interior parts and the factory alloys and if it was okay with me..........as if I care, it has all the mechanical stuff suspension and engine wise. Being the "sports" model it has the rear sway bar I want too. Just gotta get it here now. Bloody good score I reckon.

Good pickup, should make 10 times that by selling off the parts!

Not really why I wanted it though, if someone's desperate for something I'll give it away. Oh, and that wire/wires to the injectors that you pointed me to looks fine from what I can tell. Might get success from the ecu out of the other magna.
