I'm planning on chucking a sub in the back in the near future but not looking to spend a great deal of money on that kind of thing just yet. Just to get me by. I'm looking at subs around 130 - 150 from supercheap auto. Now, is that kind of price too cheap, and just asking for problems and poor quality? Keeping in mind I wanna buy something that sounds good but I don't need something that will leave my chassis weak.

~130 for a sub and the same for an amp to power it, does that sound reasonable?

Any suggestions on what to go for and what to look out for? I'm gonna head down to Autobarn and have a squiz there too.

Cheers.

For a tad bit extra, look into the cadence sub + amp pack at Jb hifi

They are about $300 iirc and have a ported sub box and mono block amp which might be worth looking into.

There is also other packs with sub and 4 chans that might also tickle your fancy

In my experience those supercheap subs just don't last and they usually have a low maximum power level. I picked up a Philips 12 and box for about 150 and a us audio 800w monoblock for 95 on special. It's a bit more than the 130 dollar setups but it has lasted 18 months so far...if u want decent sound quality save for a little longer, in my opinion.

Get one of these and an amp to suit, you will never want to swap it out.

never heard of peerless subs so cant comment on their quality but the cadance are actually quite decent

with your budget you may also want to look into something like the fusion 12" active bass tube. retail locally for about 250.00 and that includes a 8ga amp wiring kit the tube itself is simply plug in and go after you put the amp kit in

stay away from supercheap they are indeed supercheap but also supernasty

Peerless have had a great Rep for hardware ever since I was a Kid.. Great value for money....Leave other stuff for dead, for the same dough, I'd be happy to run a peerless anyday...( Tho I might get a higher wattage than that :P )
Or a Entry JL Audio...

I saved up a tad (so hard for me...) and bought a Option Audio sub and amp. See sig.

Installed some sound deadening too...
