Hi guys and girls,

I have a TJ VR-X, I'm trying to take the crank shaft pulley bolt off but it's tight enough that i don't think batman could even undo it. It doesn't mention anything about the direction in the manual i have, is it an opposite thread? Or do i just need to go to the gym a bit? Does anyone have an easy way of undoing it?

Breaker bar jammed on lower control arm, disc CAS and give starter a few hits

Normal thread, anti clockwise to undo. Undo it as above. Doing it back up again requires some thought though. Don't want to repeat things in previous threads, so do a search.

Rattle gun and a sensible application of red loctite. Done quite a few timing belts on various model cars and this has always worked to tighten it back up and keep it there. Never had a problem, one was done a few years ago and still going strong. Of course, locking the engine somehow and torquing to specs would be the "correct" way. 5th gear and someone on the brakes would probably do the trick.

......until you go to remove again one day. Do not need locktite. In shore, if you don't have the proper equipment don't touch it

I've only ever done one TJ cam belt, but the bolt that came off the crank looked like it already had some kind of locking compound on it. Had to unwind it a fair bit with the starter motor, it was pretty tight the whole way. Didn't clean the bolt or apply loctite, just used rattle gun to do it up, with the compressor set to maximum pressure, hasn't moved in 12,000 km.
