View Full Version : Fitted front springs, now car is only 10mm lower at front than rear?

OK folks after fitting my King Low springs at the front of my TL last night, I went out to the garage to take a look. Problem is, the front of the car is now only 10mm lower than the rear! The distance from the rim to the guard at the front is 13.5cm and at the rear it's 14.5cm. From the floor to the underside of the car it's 16cm at the front and 17cm at the rear. So, when I fit my King Low rears, won't the car look like it's sitting on its arse? I really don't like that look.

I suppose it's worth pointing out the car has 235/45 17's fitted to it at the moment. Is the rolling diameter of those wrong, and the cause of the strange height?

Lastly, the rear Kings are progressive rate. Would that affect the way the car sits, so that the rear doesn't drop as much as the front did?

Special notes: The rims and tyres came with the car, so before you say something like "Maaaan they're ugly!"....

Give it a few weeks of driving, you will find they will settle anothet 10mm or more.

Did you fit king LOWS or king SPORT LOWS? But yeah as hayden said it will settle a bit more after driving. I am going to take a guess and say your original springs had sagged also

I fitted King Lows - they didn't have a Sport Low listed in the catalogue for the TL?

The weird thing is the fronts were super high, a much bigger arch gap than the rear. Maybe the rears have indeed sagged.

Arch in front is meant to be larger, is how car was designed, if your wheel arches are matched then the car is not level and is not balanced

Thanks mate, figured you'd come along soon enough and put me straight!

Many will fit SL front and L rear to get the wheel arches even, all this does is lower the front more than the back and while it looks even it is an illusion as the car will then sit lower in the front than the back thus your braking and handling will be affected.

Back in the 70's it was cool to jack the back up and drop the front then in the 80's drop the back and lift the front, because all of these stances change the handling of the car the authorities outlawed un even lowering etc, in short, if you drop the front 30mm then the rear needs to drop 30mm

Mal may well explain this more, but you can get a special kit for the rear that raises it when you need it to. Its designed to level the car when towing something heavy

I forgot to update this thread and say that I have fitted the rear springs. To put it mildly, the car looks sweet!

Also, it seems to put the power down a lot better with the low springs in it. Am I dreaming?

Hey mate also in answer to your question about tyres... depending on rim width 7.5" wide is the narrowest for 235s
and the side wall should be 50,,, so say 235, 50 R17..

Danny

Also looking at the pic it looks like the rims are 7" wide as there is side wall flex so you should have 225, 50 r17s

Hrm, the car has 235/45 R17 at the moment. I should have measure the rims when I had the wheels off.

it will have the size indented on the back of the rim some where,,
standard Vrx rims are 7" wide and came with 225, 50 R17s..
i have 235 45 r17 on my vrx rims at the moment as they were cheap and i knew no better..
