Hey there,
I've tried reading through threads that are already open but they offered little help.
I'm fairly noob at these things since this is the first time i'm attempting to do this myself.
Anyway, I would like to replace my speakers and hook them up to an amp and sub without replacing the headunit as I want steering wheel controls...
What is the best way to do so (and can you somewhat explain in detail :P)?
And what products would you recommend?
Thanks in advance! I'd be 100% lost without your help.

Easiest way to do this is to get an amplifier with Hi-level inputs. Than you will need to pull your head unit out and cut/splice into the audio out wires to get sound into the amplifier.
As far as doing the job you will need at the very least a soldering iron and wire cutters and be able to use both :P
But before you even get to that stage you need to plan out what you want from your audio install, how much you are willing to spend and pick your gear accordingly.
Speakers that will fit are 6.5 inch component speakers in the front and 6x9 in the back.
The rears will slot in without much fuss but the front speakers will need baffles (a piece of MDF with a hole cut out to mount the speakers with) to fit.
As a guide my setup currently is:
Sony XMGTX6040 amp
Hertz HSK 165
Rockford Fosgate FRC4369

What are you aiming for?
A bit better?

For example, using this amp in a low end sytem, has the converters built in, I'd prefer running this type of converter, as a speaker wire redirected to the system is less likely to be affected by system noise, and with a bit of power to spare, the gains can be set nice and low, doing two thing to assist in noise reduction, 1. Higher voltages through the speaker wires, and 2. lower set gains to reduce noise/distortion... It will also take care of the auto turn on...

Front splits and Sub to to suit........
For a high end, I'd import the headunit I have (DEH80PRS), mount in glovebox, use the front speaker wires to connect to the RCA input in the back, It will give you a Full Digital Sound Processor, with Time alignment, BT, USB x 2, SD card, 16 Band L/R EQ and Mic setup.. About $400.00 from the states...Then a complete 2.1 or 4.1 amp and speaker setup.... It will even allow an active setup if you have 5 channels of amp power play with.. Yeah thats high end, but it will blow people away with a stock Head unit...
