Hi Guys

I have just bought a SE1 VRX and am in the process of correcting the previous owners strange approach to car maintenance. Honestly, I love the car. It's got Bluetooth, sunroof - pretty much everything you'd want except leather and it looks magnificent. The road holding and stability is astounding - the way it resists getting out of shape in sidewinds and uneven road surfaces is just incredible. Auto tranny already been flushed, iridium plugs and 10/30 US made Mobil 1 on order to be sorted out next week. Coolant, flushed all fluids out. New pads.

The basics.

Now down to two
Two things concern me about the car

1. Very unintrusive but still noticeable low frequency "knocking" kind of vibration. It's certainly linked to road speed (above 80 k's), not engine speed. I thought it was a pulley, but the direct link to road speed eliminates that. I can just feel it through the firewall mounted footrest. I will get the wheels balanced and the tyres checked. Hopefully it's not related to wheel bearings, hubs or driveshafts - but it's that kind of noise. Like somethings out of balance in the driveline?

2. Tranny - the shudder between 3rd on 4th. Flushing and putting new ATF in the 5spd auto hasnt solved the shuddering, it minor and more prevelant when it's been running for more than 30 mins. Hopefullt a rebuild isnt required - yet. It has done 158,000 so the tranny wont last forever.

Hopefully someone here has some answers for what I think will be a long lasting man - car relationship.

The trans, go do an auto place and get some shudder stop, this "should" fix it if not then may be a trans issue which will be the first I have seen in a 380, I do have plenty of low mileage 380 boxes here if needed

The vibration, you are on the right track, check balance and also make sure tyres are not flat spotted first.

Leather, if you want some I have some GT seats here with the memory settings on them as well

Only available genuine at the moment, my supplier has none in stock and we have been wating since Feb to get them in, not sure on genuine prices however I would be very surprised if it is wheel bearings at that sort of mileage

Sounds like wheel balance or flat spotted tyres..

We had a dud wheel bearing in our 380. Ours went at about 40k. This is outlined on another thread - the dark period in our 30 ownership as we dealt with a "dud" dealership who couldn't/wouldn't fix it.

Doesn't sound like a common problem. Ours made a whining, humming sound though.
