Look at vicroads site, shouldn't be illegal at all just buy good, load rated tyres. Also depends on widths of wheel but if you go by that rim selection is about 20% of what it could be so nobody really cares about it.

Without knowing what the offset/ width of the rims are, or the size/ load rating of the tyres are, it's hard to say legal or not.

20's can be fitted legally but will be fairly uncomfortable. If you can afford it, I'd recommend swapping down to 18's - if for nothing else to be able to get tyres cheaper. :)

They are properly load rated, have no offset and are standard width.
im pretty sure the tire size is 230/30/R20

Does that help

You can't have 'no offset'? Everything has a number... If they are 235 tyres chances are they are legal as the rim would be 8 inches wide, could also be 8.5 which is technically illegal but if you take them off because of being afraid of that being illegal you are nuts, most rims are slightly over.

Look up rim offsets and widths etc in google, also try and find the corelation between rim and tyre sizes and what fits on each easily. You'll pick it up pretty quick, may also say on your rims what size they are e.g. 20x8.0 +40 which means 20 inches, 8 inches wide and offset is +40 Your 20s won't be 7 inches wide, very rare they are under 8.

You won't know the offset/ width until you either remove the wheel & see what's written inside or you can find out the name of them & cross check info on that particular rim with the manufacturer.

There's no tyre size 230/30/20 available here. (Or anywhere AFAIK).

You'll need specific numbers as printed on the wheel & tyre if you want specific answers. We're all just guessing otherwise.

20s are not illegal. You can go any diameter rim you want as long as the overall tyre diameter is within +/-15mm of standard. Of course, the tyre must meet or exceed the load and speed ratings of the factory tyres.

There's nothing illegal about the actual diameter of the rims. For some reason, some people tend to have this silly idea that the roads laws does not allow to the diameter of the rim actual to be larger by 2 inches. There is no such law - it is about the ROLLING DIAMETER of the wheel AND tyre TOGETHER.

There are two modifications you can make the wheels of the car without needing certification. That is increase/decreasing the size of the rim by no more than 1 inch (25mm) and/or increasing/decrease the ROLLING DIAMETER OF THE WHEEL & TYRE by NO more than 15mm than the biggest tyre fitted to the model of car.

In the case of the magna - the Series II VRX's had the largest tyre at 225/50/R17. This means that the width of the tyre is 225mm, the height of the sidewall is 50% of the width @ 225mm, and the tyre is a radial tyre (R) with 17" wheel on the inside. The total rolling diameter is ~659mm. Therefore you can basically fit any diameter wheels, provided that together with the tyre, the rolling diameter does not increase to more than 675mm or decrease to less than 644mm.

In your case, if your tyres are 235/30/R20 (sounds a bit slim for a 20" rim - I would've expect 8.5-9") the total rolling diameter of your wheel & tyre are approx 650mm which is perfectly legal. The width of your tyres are 235mm which is 10mm larger than the VRX wheels and therefore also legally allowed.

So in sum, in terms of your wheel & tyre size - they are not illegal.

Other than that, the wheels need to sit flush with the guards (this is why many modders roll or extend their guards for that epic hellaflush fitament) and the tyres need to have the right load rating which is 95Y for the magna's.

I would also look around and try and find a set of 4 digit numbers. They shoulld read something like "2510". This is the date the tyre was made. The first two numbers are the week of the year (i.e. 25 = 25th week) and the last two are the year (i.e. 10 = 2010). You really don't want tyres that are older than 3 years. After this stage they dry out and can be unsafe.

As always, if in doubt - check the modification guide from Vicroads, call Vicroads, contact a mechanic and/or tyre shop or even have it inspected.

Otherwise, drive safe and enjoy (if possible with harsh 20's lol :P)

VR-X only needs a load rating of 94.

Can you take it to a reputable wheel and tyre joint to have it checked? How about the state motoring body like the RAA over here in SA. They have a technical department that can have a squiz and give advice accordingly...

Given the information is all available online, it's not hard to do yourself.
