Recently went to a vic meet. Caught up with some of the boys. Has given me ideas to start modding things up on my own magna.
I have come up with: 2.5 catback exhaust, 17 inch rims and ride lowering to start with
My question is. Where do i start. I figured id go with exhaust first. But if i want to go with a bodykit in the future would it be better to work around the exhaust tip or to do the bodykit first. Ect ect
Any advice appretiate.
Sorry for the noob question :)

If you're planning on doing modifications to your car, you should always have a search around the forums. I can start off by saying that a catback exhaust isn't a good value-for-money modification. The standard forum search is pretty sucky, so use Google - type in "site:www.aussiemagna.com/forums" and then your search term. For example (https://www.google.com.au/#sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&site=&source=hp&q=site:www.aussiemagna.com%2Fforums+catback+exhaus t&oq=site:www.aussiemagna.com%2Fforums+catback+exhau st&gs_l=hp.3...1132.8058.0.8170.57.45.5.0.0.1.393.108 19.2-40j3.43.0...0.0...1c.jb29FjZ_HOg&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.,cf.osb&fp=b769a21dc5711a62&biw=1700&bih=959).
Exhaust tips are not super expensive - you're looking at less than $100 including fitting, so if you need to change it later, there's no huge deal. If you're looking at a VR-X kit or something, it'd probably be worthwhile to just go a single exhaust outlet so it'll fit in the bodykit cutout.

Iv just looked at victorian p plate laws and apparently an exhaust mod is an engine mod which is illegal lol.

I'm in the middle of modding my TL ES Magna. Malcolm is loving me right now...
Anyway here's what I've done so far:
- Colour coded mirrors
- Colour coded headlights
- Towbar (OK, not really a mod for looks!)
- King Low springs front and rear ($250 and did it myself, happy to help you out as well)
- Verada dash cluster
- Pioneer AVH head unit
- Semi-decent speakers front and rear
Still to come is a set of 380 rotors and calipers for the front. The car already has 17s and runs 235/45 tyres which I think look good on the Magna and I can't see a reason to go to 18s. Talk to Malcolm (Madmagna) about some 17 rims off a 380 because these look pretty good.
I'm seriously wanting to do a 380 motor and 5-speed auto as well but funds may be a problem.
The best thing I did was lower it. It looks bloody great if you ask me and was a piece of piss to do.

Doesn't matter, but good rims on a high car look weird. Whereas all lowered cars look good!

What I recommend to everyone is "Coilovers & 20s" - I think they look fantastic.. But others beg to differ..
You could look at set of CJ Lancer 18" wheels or some factory 17s.
I'd say rims first and then once you lower it, you can really appreciate how low it has gone.

I agree with this. I'd probably lower first. The only exception would be if you were in the market for new tyres soon - may as well go straight for new wheels/tyres if it's on the agenda.

think i might deal with wheels and tyres first. then ill see what i can do about lowering. i dont want 20s. i dont want tyre replacements costing me the price of a house :)

Haha!
Suprisingly.. My last set cost $650 for the full set..
If you like the factory look, look out for some 18" Lancer wheels. They look the business and are a nice size.

Daniel - mate good to meet you at the meet.
Modification-wise - I'd probably fit the rims and tyres first. Save some pennies champ and buy proper tyres. If price is a real problem (e.g. you're a uni student on low wages) then consider going 17 and something second hand. You can get great bargains second hand and 17" tyres are usually cheaper.
Exhaust-wise - technically it is illegal but if it's not very loud you will get away with it.
The differences to actual power from an exhaust is pretty minimal. You'd make around 5-7kw (at the wheels) with a proper exhaust system - that is full extractors ($600min), hi-flow cat ($200+) and a muffler ($150-200) plus you got to add-on fitting and maybe some custom piping.
A good cost effective upgrade is a Lukey muffler or a VRX one coupled with a 200cspi hi-flow cat off ebay. This is what I've done and it's so far cost me less than $350. Here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QS5kbVOVDOQ) how it sounds. If you want anything louder then maybe get a really nice magnaflow one or maybe noisier Lukey.
Suspension wise - you may want to check with your insurer about that before you change it. A lot of insurance companies do not insure cars with suspension modifications. I found heaps that would insure cheap alloy wheels but no suspension. Also - lowering is one thing but you should also consider getting better shocks. The stock struts have a lot of travel and not made to be lowered. Shorter springs will just compress it badly. Any corner or bump and it'll try and re-extend to its original extension and it's pretty nasty (comfort). It'll wear down the shocks & bumpstops in no time as well. Either do all or nothing ;) (hence why I'm still 4x4 height)

KJ grille, VRX bodykit, VRX muffler, 380 side indicators, parabolic headlights, manual conversion (most important :) ), decent sound system, lower and wheel change and you're done. Most expensive thing by far will be manual conversion but you will not regret it one bit!
Although my 'essential mod list' would be just the manual conversion and the 6g75. Who cares about looks :D

THANKS MATE, i enjoyed myself too. ill be coming there alot more often now iv actually gotten off my arse and come for the first time lol
exhaust wise i dont want to take that risk. i know its sounds girly but iv already had 3 demerit points taken. i have 2 left aha :/
suspension and lowering wise, that will probably be my next stop. when i get money up ill look into it and defiantly contact RACV. ill look for a mechanic/workshop who knows what there doing who will replace all the necessary parts. iv heard about people who have cut corners in lowering and ended up badly.
rims. im not sure. i recently saw mgntzds DP and loved his rim with the red detail around the edge near the Tyre. i think that looked sweet :). but ill have a look around for when it comes to that.
as for manual conversion. i dont think so aha. i have to at least wait until i get my full License before i even try to learn how to drive that lol
well again thanks everyone :)
I've lowered mine myself. Can help you out to since I've got the tools to do so, let me know if you want a hand to lower the car, we'll work out a date and time :)
