Hi There i Have some L.E.Ds i want to hook up as Daytime running lights but Don't know whether to Just Wire them in to the Parkers or Some other way Possibly with an overide Switch.

Any tips would be Great as The parkers seems to defeat the purpose.

cheers
Daza

In the drivers footwell, if you remove the front kick panel where the bonnet release is and look up to the back of the keybarrel thereis a few wires come outof it in a white plug.

The red is constant power, blue with white strip is ACC and not sure what ON is.

I wouldnt recommend cutting these as they arent long and there isnt much slack in the cable. What I would do is with a sharp blade scrape the insulation back on the blue/white cable for about 7mm. Then id wrap the positive wire fron ya LED around this joint youve made. Then solder and wrap in duct tape.

Then you can earth the negative off the body. By doing it this way, the LED will come on automatically whenever the car is on ACC and should turn off. If your not comfortable doing this, you could splice into ya parkers, just be warned, that is similar to the way foglights run and SA cops love looking for foglights etc to pull ocver and ping

For DRLs to be legal in Queensland, they must turn on when the car is turned on, but must switch off automatically when the parker lights are turned on. Your wiring should reflect this.

I imagine the laws would be similar in SA.

There are relays that can turn things off as well

That is Wire up the DRL's to an ingintion/acc source.
Wire in the relay to the parker..
When the parker comes on, the DRL will turn off....

This will give a fully automatic DRL system that is legal...

Where is that guy when you need him...????

Yes good point marty! Didnt think of a relay.

And Red, i have noticed a lit of the bmw, audi all that that have DRL dont turn off at night, they simply dim.

Daza, i actually have a set of circular DRL lights. Fit perfectly into th/tj bars and it also has the appropriate wiring. If your interested in them, or the wiring, shoot us a pm and we can work out something when ya grab my seats. Ive got instructions for installation too.

Rush, I have DRL's that Dim on the 380, the dimmed light is a legal parker, as you cant (legally) run two parkers, the parker globes have been removed....

If you have have bought a set of DRL's yet, seriously consider the Philips Daylights series, off Amazon or somewhere.. Seriously cheaper than Here, And definately rival the the best on Merc, Bmw etc... And E rated for legality, they come with the wiring kits too...

I got a control that does all these function. I'm going to make a thread today about my project. I had problem in uploading the video last night. So I will try today. I didn't use a relay, I use a voltage switch from jaycar and a extra relay to turn the DRL when the park lights are turn on. It the only legal wa y I can think off.

Yeah I've noticed that.

Under Queensland legislation (Transport Operations (Road Use Management—Vehicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 2010 (http://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/LEGISLTN/CURRENT/T/TrantOpRUVSSR10.pdf), r. 67(5)), "Daytime running lights must be wired so they are off when a headlight, other than a headlight being used as a flashing signal, is on."

Thanks Guys for the Responses. Rush if i can copy the Wiring diagrams would be great there is a New Jaycar store near me and i will be going in to check it out. I have to Make sure it is legaly wired up for when i Go to Bathurst this Year. I also have a Set of 8 Orange Flashing L.E.Ds amber ones ill be using for work But cant see a Hassle with them as they are wired in to a Seperate Control Unit and will Not Be Used on the road Just In Transport Yards and at Speedway.

Don't do it! LED DRLs look fugly on cars that weren't designed with them... and some that were, not mentioning any HSV R8s or anything.

Lol... So you can have them on when you are flashing people ahead of you about that concealed police car with the speed camera.

For that light, grab a normally closed relay that opens up when energised. The parker light circuit is what powers the coil.

Or you can buy this control box and wire it up as this most legal ebay set up I have seen:

If you use the control box from that ebay link I posed, you won't need an over ride switch. Or you can make your own control box. Jaycar people aren't to bright in some cases.

You don't need a switch as that control box will turn on the DRL when the motor is running. Like I said most jaycar people don't know shit all about most thing. I would connect the control box to the battery and let it do it own thing.
