I just replaced head gasket on a tr 2.6 carby and got it started but now its making a awfull grinding sound out of the rocker cover. I have tryd to change set the timing chains according to the manual by lining up the dowel and drill hole but this hasnt helped much. i have tryd adjusting the dizzy and this doesnt seem to help either.

will the engine run

are the rocker bearings tensioned to 19 nm

have you used a device to take the tension
off the oil pumps rachet little lever on the chains

if the motor has high km you may need to eliminate the balance shafts

Thanks for your reply.. i took the timing chain cog back off and realized that the down wasn't all the way through so i realigned everything (including 1st cyl, dowel and dizzy button) and now i can only get it to crank over if my foot is flat to the floor. The grinding sound has stopped but it still has no power and as soon as i take my foot off the pedal it stalls. i didn't have a chance to adjust the dizzy while it was running and now the battery is flat......soo ill have another go tomorrow.. still any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I found with carby models

the dissy rotor needs to be at about half past one o clock position
when the crank is TDC
where the EFI is twelve o clock at TDC

so withdraw the dizzy and try that
I often have the problem of restarting after head rebuilds

the rotor position stops it running properly

make sure all your vacuume lines are sealed
