Hi all,
I've been trawling the forums for a number of days but can't seem to find a clear cut answer - I have recently bought a set of 18x8 PDW Optic-Zs with +45 offset and was wondering whether or not these will fit my stock height TJ Advance? I have seen conflicting posts saying they will and won't fit (EGO mentions somewhere he has 20x8.5 +46 which fit without an issue, others say it will rub on the rear control arms); and ultimately I'd trial fit them to satisfy my own curiousity, but a considerable distance separates the Magna and the mags until sometime next week :(
Cheers! :)

18x8 +40 with 235/40 18 tyres fit on my car so i don't think the 5mm could make to much difference? The rim itself will definately clear a vr-x or ralliart rear control arm but not sure about standard TJ. Front if it touched would only be on full lock i would suggest...
Worst case scenario is you may need a 5mm spacer on the rear.

Thats what I'm hoping, and from what the calculator on www.rimsntyres.com/specs.jsp suggests, it will sit 14mm closer to the suspension/brake components compared to the original 15" setup. I'm hoping there is more than 15mm or more space between the stock setup and suspension components... lol

should alway trial fit rims before handing over any coin. it may rub on the rear arm

Yeah I know that and I would have normally, I thought at the time the offset was close enough to stock to be okay and thought nothing more of it.

As you have a stock TJ the tyres will be closer to the arm HOWEVER as you have not mentioned anything about tyres it is hard to say if the tyre will clear the arm.
As a general rule the correct tyre will just clear with std arms and will easily clear if you had the VRX back end in with the different arms. I have had similar to Hayden on a TF for a while and there was just enough clearance to be comfortable. You will be pushing the limits but as long as your tyres are not too wide for the rim thus no side wall buldge you should be ok

I've not purchased tyres yet, I bought the wheels with shagged tyres of a different size and load rating - which have been removed - and intend to replace them with 235/40R18s before fitment.

The VRX has a different rear end? Did I read that right? How so?

Different rear control arms to accommodate larger wheels and tyres.

Good result - Fits up well, no modifications necessary using 235/40R18 tyres

G'day and Hi Guys
First Post so be gentle!
I have the exact same scenario but on my 2000 TH Sports manual. I'm fitting RJR Hype rims 18x8 +45 offset and using 225/45R18 95Y tyres. (I am replacing the standard 16x6 +46 with 215/60R16 tyres.) Based on above result, does this look OK with you guys?
Are the rear upper control arms the same on the TH models and the "standard" TJ's? (I realize that the TJ VRX have different arms)
Assuming all goes well, I will post up pics just as Ammerty has kindly done above.
Thanks and Cheers!

It needed lowering months ago lol, just waiting for my shocks to show signs of flogging out before I invest in new suspension :)

Assuming your original tyre size is a 215/60R16, your new setup will be 5mm closer to the suspension/brakes and stick out 5mm more than stock, which should- in theory - be fine. Mine was 14mm closer according to http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp and it fits a treat.
Guys, Just a follow up from my earlier post.
Test fitted today on my 2000 TH Sports Manual. RJR Hype rims in 18x8 +45 offset fitted with Kumho KU36 225/45R18 XL 95W tyres. (Replacing OEM 16x6 +46 with 215/60R16 94V)
All good with no rubbing anywhere and nicely within the guards front and rear. No rubbing lock to lock on the fronts and about 5mm clearance on rear upper control arms.
Perfect fitment actually, could not be better.
