Hi All,
I'm after some trouble shooting...
I'm getting excessive wear on the outer edges of my front tyres... zupps mtgravatt have been less than helpful. I'm being told that there is nothing wrong with the suspension.... :kb:

The wear is so bad that the edges are almost bald whilst the rest of the tyre is close to brand new. They have only done approx 15000kms. I'm going to have to get a new pair soon before the steel belt comes through :(
I don't have any noise from the suspension, the car handles fine... and I only do mostly short trips,
So I figured before I get a new pair of tyres i would ask of the combined wisdom of AMC :)

Thanks in advance....

So its camber wear? Or is it like the tyre delaminating along that one side?

Possibly camber wear? :)

try tyre pressure when i got my new tyres i asked what pressure to run them at and was tod between 36-38 psi was told if they run under this it can cause the outer edge of tyre to wear prematurely so i run them on 37 no problems may be something to think about

Is this sarcasm or no?

It's sarcasm...

Get a wheel alignment done, see what the results are, and post up the results.

I would consider going to Fulcrum. There's a branch at Yeroongpilly. Also consider Rick's Wheel Alignment at Albion.

Exactly, we get a lot of customers coming in with the same problem thinking its the tyres or the alignment but they haven't got high enough pressure or just haven't bothered to check them at all. Whenever someone gets tyres from us I always tell them the correct pressure and explain what happens to their tyres if they dont keep their pressure up.

You are spot on there, 38psi is the best pressure for that size.

If your car is lowered, there's a very good chance it'll have excessive camber on the inside of the tyres.

Very simple explanation.

All FWD cars suffer from this if
a) tyre pressure is too low
b) tyres are not rotated every 5000km back to front

If you have stock suspension, shouldn't be a camber problem.

Unfortunately, big and heavy FWD cars need a lot of preventative tyre maintenance.

My car is low and i don't get any silly tyre wear apart from my front camber which i purposely added. I only rotate tyres back to front when one end has significantly more wear then the other.

Check it on both sides.

what do you mean VT Commodore? what do you think is wrong ? camber wheel alignment cuz i need to get this fixed.

VT Commodores were notorious for having ridiculous negative camber when lowered.

The fact that it's from your front is wierd. How are your rear tyres wearing? Normally your rears will have more camber (and will wear quicker) than your fronts.

Or have you asked for a print out from your last wheel alignment indicating your front/rear camber?

Xboxie, that's bad man. I wldnt be riding on them. I can see some tyre fibers there. Not a good sign.

Oh Oh Yeah VT :) No the front wears out faster than the rear the rears are still excellent condition,so what i have done for now is put the rear ones upfront.
ill have to get this checked out

mine did this too from brand new when i had 245/35/19 tyres it was because when your driving fast the front end lifts and it scrubs the outside edges the only fix was to put stock wheels back on the car and get a wheel alinment and THEN put the bigger wheels on. DONT get a wheel alignment with the bigger wheels cause thats what stuffs the alignment up.

I'm certainly no expert but that really does not sound correct to me at all...
