Kay.. I have a daily drive Pulsar with bent valves... before they bent the engine ran a dream.. noe today I acquired a new engine, its been sitting outside a while and had had a few parts pinched off it..

I have 2 options, swap the heads and use the known good engine, or engine swap and put a pile of good parts from current engine onto new engine. Keep in mind that I am confident doing an engine swap, but head swap will be foreign ground to me.

What would you do in this situation fellow readers?

Just to the motor sway provided you can determine that the new motor is turning over ok and get a scope and look inside for any water that may have entered internally

By the time you take off the head, get it prepared and put it on, you may as well get a good motor anyway

Good idea with the scope. I'll pinch my mates this week. I'll swap the water pump and thermostat etc while its easy to access.. and new timing chain etc, should be a decent engine :)

I thought the same with the waste of time doing head swap.. though it would be a cool learning experience, cbf :P

When you swap them out, use the broken engine to practice removing and installing the head. You never know, you may end up fixing the damaged one and selling it.

Tbh, the head gasket kit is worth half what the engine sells for, and I plan on pinching parts off the engine :)

I definitely will remove the head to inspect the damage and see what head removal is all about though :)
