So the steering wheel in my verada is stuffed, leather has all worn through at top of wheel. I was at wreckers today and saw a 380 GT with steering wheel in mint condition and couldn't help myself. I know it has been done before, but was wondering if anyone took photo's whilst they where doing it. I've seen mal's post but but wouldn't mind seeing some photos, or once I start pulling my wheel off and comparing the two will it become obvious what needs to be done?

So I dont have to change clock springs? I know the cruise control stalk is slightly different but should be a straight bolt on swap.

You'll need to resolder the magna plugs on to the 380 clock spring for steering wheel controls+airbag+cruise, if you are not confident doing this - take it to an auto electrician... they won't charge much. As this is involving an airbag you need to ensure your join is staggered, clean (not dry), and properly protected (heatshrunk+taped).

So I cant use the clock spring already on my verada, I need the 380 one? Steering wheel controls are not being used so I dont need to worry about that.

In that case you can, but again requires resoldering as the airbag plug is different.

Again please ignore above as is wrong, the 380 clock spring does not mount to the Magna combo swith

You need to get the airbag plug off the 380, solder that to the Magna clock spring. You also need to change over the cruise stalk as even though they look the same, the 380 one works slightly differently

You will lose your steering wheel controls if you have them however you may be able to also patch that back into the current clock spring wires however I have not tried, remember that hte buttons on the 380 also work differently to the Verada

Thanks Mal, I didn't think the clock springs were the same. I've managed to get the old wheel off all right, but I didn't get the whole plug of the 380 when at the wreckers, they just unplugged it, so I only have one half. Is it possible to solder the plug from my verada airbag module onto the 380 airbag, or is that not an advisable thing to do. Besides all that the only thing that has stumped me a bit is the horn. There are 3 wires coming from the clock spring (airbag, cruise and horn), I can for the life of me figure out where the horn wire is meant to go in the 380 wheel, any ideas?

It's not all wired up yet, still have to get other half of plug from wreckers

The wire in the middle is the horn I'm guessing, I can quite figure out where it attaches in the 380 wheel. Anyone point me in the right direction?

Horn attaches to a pin on the airbag

Please make sure you do any work with the battery disconnected!!!

If you turn the car on without one of the airbags connected it will throw a SRS light which need disabling by a dealer.

I've followed the instructions as per the service manual in regards to removal of the airbag, so all is good
