Hey Fellas,

I'm thinking of getting my ECU tuned and need some info from the experts. Here's what I need to know,

1. Does SKR still do the postal tune with the 1 week turnaround for $350?

2. The location of the ECU and how to remove it without losing fingernails or breaking anything (If there's a thread on this, just point me in the right direction, cheers).

3. I'd like to tune it for 98RON but need more input about pros and cons - and if it WAS tuned for 95RON, would there be an improvement if I dropped 98 in the tank?

4. How much performance with real world references can I expect? ie. would this be a good 'bang for buck' mod? I'm talking in terms of responsiveness, acceleration through the rev range, side effects etc.

Thanks in advance for all the input. Any advice, ridicule, accusations of lunacy are much appreciated.

1. SKR isnt the only person who is able to tune a Magna... I also dont believe in "postal tunes", each car is unique and will require its own tune (not so much for n/a, more for turbo). Find someone local who is able to tune your car specific to your requirements. Most tunes are normally about power figures, what you really want is someone who can do low load tuning to make the power curve smoother rather than only tweak values in the high end of the table.

2. tucked right under the heater box, behind the console... take the sides of the console off, unplug 4 ecu plugs, and a few 10mm bolts.

3. if you're tuned for 95, no point imo putting 98 in.

4. if it's tuned correctly to suit your car's mods, more responsive and smoother, slight better power figure but i would say power curve inproved rather than peak power. Mitsubishi's tune has to cater for all varibles (dirty injectors, poor fuel, neglect, temperature, etc etc) so it's usually a crap tune (usually runs rich to protect motor). Do your mods first, then get tuned. each mod will change the requirements of the tune.

Best to call SKR about the turnaround - a bit of searching should turn up the phone number. Gives you the chance to tell him what engine mods to take into consideration.

If you can find a tuner locally who understands tuning the stock ECUs in Evos and Subarus using ECUFlash, ECU definition files are available for most J series onwards Magnas/Veradas - see the thread linked in my signature block for more info.

Given the mods you have listed, I would install a set of Ralliart (#7) or 380 (#15) cams before considering a tune.
