WTF!!!

Recall for TJ-KJ AWD's.... bah.
no word on what the exact potential result of the fault may be...

http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200408/s1179067.htm

"Potential brake problem prompts Magna recall

Mitsubishi is recalling more than 1,000 late model vehicles over a potential brake problem.

The TJ and KJ all-wheel-drive Magnas could develop problems where a rear wheel brake pipe comes into contact with a wiring harness bracket.

The recall affects Magnas made between October 2002 and June last year.

A Mitsubishi spokesman says there have been no problems reported by customers so far and the recall is voluntary and precautionary."

What exactly happens during a recall?

Not alot. This is apparently only a voluntary recall.

I guess u'd book a time with your nearest Mitsu dealer/service, bring your car in and they'll do whatever they need to do to fix the problem.

Greetings All.

Very true samurai. BUT, When the general public see's the recall, they will loose even more sales considering the HUGE downfall in sales over the TL. Also with the new 2005 "magna" that they could be very well changing to galent, well....it could just covince the public that MMAL are trying to hide from faliure...

My 2c,

i called my local mitsu tent...
at least they knew about the recall... but the guy wasnt too sure of what the fault was... web sez wiring loom on brake line...

he sed recall only involves an inspection...and a kit for those cars affected (he seemed to reckon very few of em would need the kit).

so apparently not a prob with the brakes themselves.

Mitsubishi Magna AWD & Verada AWD (SD2004-GC28-047)

Date: 10/08/2004

Supplier: Mitsubishi Motors

Category: Motor Vehicles

Product Info: Mitsubishi TJ Magna AWD & KJ Verada AWD (SD2004-GC28-047)

Defect details: There is a possibility that the right hand rear wheel brake pipe may come into contact with a wiring harness bracket. As a result, the brake pipe may wear leading to brake fluid leakage from one hydraulic circuit. If this occurs, brake pedal travel will increase and effectiveness of the service brakes is reduced, resulting in increased stopping distance. Note: the operation of the parking brake is not affected.

Consumer action: Contact your authorised Mitsubishi Dealer. Or call the general public inquiry phone number on 1300 13 12 11.

Make: Mitsubishi

Model: TJ Magna AWA & KJ Verada AWD

Consequences: Brake pedal travel will increase and effectiveness of the service brakes is reduced, resulting in increased stopping distance.

Big deal, every brand of car always has recalls and it doesn't affect sales at all. The biggest determining factor for sales is price, features, whether it's a fleet model or not, maintenance cost, reliability (name), and probably last on the list is advertising campaign.

My dad works at Mitsu in Adelaide, and he explained what happened during this recall. One of the test drive cars, the ones they give to newspapers and magazines to review and they just thrash the crap out of. Then after it had done around 500,000k's the take it back to mitsu's and see if anythings wrong with it, and they noticed something wrong with the brakes. So apparently if you thrash your AWD for 500,000k's it might brake, Go Figure!

I booked my AWD Verada in for the recall check a couple of weeks ago. Chadstone Mitsubishi checked the car and found that it passed the inspection. No work required.

I was quite pleased as they stated that had it not passed the recall inspection it would have taken up to 8 hours to fix the fault, including removing the fuel tank.

So it seems not all AWD vehicles are at risk.

Just on a spamming side note. Did anybody get their TE/TF recalled, to get the carpet replaced? When I first got the car, the carpet was a bit short and came out of the side scuff plate thingos. They had to be shoved back in every now and then. They sent us a letter, and they replaced it. It still happens, but not as frequently now :)

FYI

I had my AWD looked at and stuff me, mine was the 1st my local dealer had which needed to be rectified. Problem was they'd never done or seen it before. Lucky me!!

It took nearly 2 days for what they told me Mitsi's factory said should take 3.5hrs.
They removed my petrol tank, rear axel, interior seats. Basically everything that bolted on to the rear of the car.

The dealer said that its a 3 step process:
1 Inspection 3hrs
2 Replace necessary parts 8hrs
3 If the next measurements are outside of the tolerences 2days. If this step needs to be done apparantly the whole loom or brake line from the front needs to be replaced resulting in nearly all the running gear being removed to get at it.

But they fixed it, but had a very noisy exhaust rattle, took it back and now no probs
Just think if recall was on normal TJ's they'd go broke over night!

KEG.

SERIOUS!

Got to remember the test vehicle had done something like 500,000ks. and that if they stuff it they have to fix it.

As i said mine had a knock and they fixed it at no cost.
