So had to get the water pump/timing kit installed for my brothers new verada and found that its blown the head gasket probably becaue whoever had it kept driving it even after the pump was gone ..... so spoke to mitsfix has a couple available just wanted to see if anyone new a good place to get trustworthy engines from sydney (closer to home)

Also any suggestions on upgrades to the motor while its out ?? would be great to know what others think..

I know I'm not really helping the cause here, but have you thought about possibly doing a 6G75 3.8L V6 motor? It just seems a better choice since you have to remove your old motor, anyway.

Lol thought about it but since its my brothers car I doubt he would go down that road....just trying to find out things that can be done while the motor is out with the 3.5 V6, 3.8 would be good or even better 3.5 V6 DOHC if it was mine that is :D

There's not much that can easily be done to the 6G74. The most common mods to them don't involve modification of the engine (e.g. extractors, catback, hi-flow cat, tune). Just whack another 6G74 in without modification, or go for a 6G75.

full service, change bits that wear while ther are easy to get to, seals etc.. make it all clean and shiny. paint some part of it red to make it go faster.

I always go to pick n payless in blacktown. They source some decent low k engines. Otherwise go for the drive down to vic with a car trailer and drop in a low k '75.

would it really be that cost effective to drive to vic car trailer in tow to get a new engine though???

Would be interested to know of a good wrecker.

Don't know how much it would cost to get down to Vic. Maybe get a 6g75 locally and find a local mechanic.

if you want a second hand 6G74 installed, Jap world spares in Tempe can install as well as supply-i think they also can pickup/deliver your car to ya

the cars at a mechanic mates place so im getting him to do the work as well as replace timing/water pump since i have the kit already. i got quoted $400 for a 2001 with 110k km's (with 3mnths warranty etc) from Smithfield auto spares dont know too much about them though. I might talk to pick n payless (sometimes "paymore" for a part that you pull out yourself :( ) see what they say.

Oh yeah Smithfield said +400 if you want them to fit it anyone use these guys before would like to get some info before i commit to them since they are in Syd

Might call Jap spares as well see what they have listed. Mitsfix though seems to have a couple of very low k motors for very afforadable prices unfortunately i want one closer to home but if i cant find any decent wreckers ill get it from melb (dont plan on driving though just freight it)

Just an update the car runs really well, so far no issues apart from some extra work transitioning the motor from a TL to the KF body Thanks Mitsfix anyway if anyone needs a TL manifold inc sensors/throttle body let me know.

Just a quick update its been i think almost 3months now and the motor bought from mitsfix is doing great running smooth especially after resetting tranny ecu. Now gotta do some paint work also had the head liner done by a mobile professional for $150(I took it off though) very clean job though.
