View Full Version : Question about engine mounts, roll stoppers

Would someone set me straight please;
I believe there are 4 engine mounts in the engine bay, one at the front behind the radiator, one at the rear next to the firewall, one on the RHS (as you sit in it) near the wheel arch and one on the LHS.
Are these mounts all there for supporting the weight of the engine?
Or is it that some of them are simply "roll stoppers"?
Also; I'm informed that some of them contain oil. Is that correct and which ones?
Thanks, just learning..
No oil, they are the only thing that the engine sits on so yeah, they are load bearing. Front are rears act ad roll stops, sides are just mounts, though when your roll stops start to wear out, the driver side mount will start to twist due to excess roll and wear out pretty quickly so I guess it influences roll to a small extent.

Ok, so front and rear are mainly roll stoppers, but they all do bear the load.
I understand that on the Verada some contain oil or something for additional vibration absorption, I think the RHS does?
Also, what about the transmission, does it have mounts? How many?

There are 4 mounts.
Drivers side & transmission side are 'true' mounts & they actually support the engine/ trans. The front & rear mounts are more 'roll stops' & prevent the engine from rocking back & forward in the engine bay.
The front & rear are not load bearing, in that they can be removed & the engine/ trans will remain in place as long as the 2 mounts are still in place.
There's no difference between Verada & Magna mounts. Some of the earlier models had some sort of dampener bolted onto the drivers mount, similar to the 380 set-up, but the mounts themselves are identical.
I can't comment on the oil in the mounts. I'm interested to know which one's you think are oil filled & why?

Main 2 mounts are fluid filled
Oh wow, apparently mine were well empty of fluid last time I replaced them then :P
