Hi guys,
I have just obtained my perma-iPod for my car (160gb classic) and want to create a permanent docking spot for it. at the moment, I have the cable running under the console and through the cigarette lighter socket hole inside the arm rest, just sitting in there loosely. I was thinking I would use the dock adapter that comes with the ipod, sprayed black and set it in the console a bit beside the hole for the cigarette lighter.
Anyway, the point of this post is first, was there ever a factory option iPod dock in the 380, if so, where? and, secondly, what have you all done (if at all) for a factory looking docking set up?

Based on my experience, I would be careful there. I had my car broken into once and all they pinched was my iPod because I had it attached to my old stereo and sitting in the cup holders in the centre console.

nearly done now. probably should have take progress pictures. the iPod will be inside the armrest, it wont be visible from outside the car. All I have done is cut a hole for the dock adapter to sit in and used the offcuts to weld it to the centre console with a hot knife. I've got a small extension plug on its way, because the stock cable has a push button release for the iPod that won't be accessible once its all in there properly. my plan is to tack the extension plug to the adapter and then its all done :)

Alright. It's only been a month and a half (Chinese postal service FTW!) but I've finally finished off my attempt at an iPod integration in my 380. It's not nearly as seamless as I had hoped, but its not terrible in my biased opinion.

I did wonder abut braking, haven't tested it yet. It has very little movement when I jiggle it, so my thoughts are it should be fine

mine is very similar for my 3rd gen except the cable is loose, so i lay it down in the compartment. The cable itself runs under the center console you wouldn't know it was there itll you fished around. Can also be hid completely under the console area

That's how I had mine until I finally got the dock adapter and finished it off. The avn 6000 is somewhat temperamental when your ipod has 10, 000+ songs on it, so i need to be able to get at it easily to reset if needed.

Doesn't budge under brakes :D. a moment of inattention proved that for me!! iPhone 5 wont happen. only iPod will go in there.
