Just wondering those with lowered AWD's, which springs are you running. I have king lows and not enjoying the ride. I am contemplating going to King SP's or the Dobinson equivalent.

Those with SP's and Lows on an AWD, could you measure from the centre of the wheel to the wheel arch and post up the distance, so I can compare to my AWD.

Cheers

Why are you not enjoying the ride? What are you hoping to improve on by changing your springs? I've run SP's in my AWD previously & loved them. Car wasn't extremely low but drove brilliantly.

If king lows are too hard for you id say you need new shocks or something.

Wtf. New shocks will make springs softer. Mwahahaha. Btw AWD behave very differently to FWD. please keep this in mind when posting comments

As advised. Grelise here on Amc had similar issues and the dobinsons were the first part of the fix then boge to take away the harsh rebound. Sp or similar in dobinson talk is the best compromise for looks and quality

While dampers will change ride quality from what you describe in your email this is only part of the issue

Well maybe that's a go then, give dobinsons a call.

Grelises fix was to install a different spring height, Mal. He installed the equivalent of the King SP in the Dobinsons which helped alleviate the issues he was having - much the same as Nigel (FamilyWagon), when he installed the King SP's in the rear of his AWD. (Am not putting the Dobinsons down here.)

I personally don't believe the standard King lows are suitable for the rear of the AWD. The spring rate is far too soft for the extra weight in the rear. That's why the 30mm drop of the SP's or the Grelise equilavent of the Dobinsons work so well. If you've got decent shocks & don't carry much weight in the back you'll probably get away with the lows for a while.

But without some further info from the OP, it's very hard to say if changing springs will make him any happier with his AWD or not. lol

Ok, just got back from a weekend away.

Yes I used the search function, but I am after some specific measurements to ascertain various ride heights with different springs, irrespective of rim size etc, hence why I asked for measurements to be taken from the centre of the rim to the guard. The search results I got where not really a help to me, as just stating that the XYZ springs lowered my car XYZ or lowered my car XYZ from guard to edge of rim (what size rim).

I have been conversing with Mal, aka Madmagna, on the issue I am having. I have been chasing an alignment issue on the rear end, and one of the problems I have got is, with King Low springs (KFCL42), my car is riding on the bump stops hence my complaints about the ride and handling. This why I am looking into the King SP or Dobinson equivalent.

As I would like to maintain a somewhat lowered look, I would like to see what other members ride heights are with their AWD's with lowered springs, both lows and SP's, hence my reason for posting. At the end of the day I need to fit some sort of raised spring, be it something along the lines of an SP spring or source the OE spring as it is not practical nor safe to have a car riding on bump stops.

If your car is on the bump stops you do either not have unmodified king lows, or you have 1000 kg in the boot

Permanently on the bump stops? Sounds like something else is wrong not just the springs. How old are the springs? or have you LPG fitted or tow a lot?

Have a look in my members ride thread. There's a few pictures of my AWD with the SP's fitted. The one on the tow truck & a few with the speedy wheels fitted. The later ones with the Evo X rims fitted are with coilovers but they're set at the same height that the SP's were.

Thanks WytWun and alscall.

I don't have lpg nor a tow bar, and the king springs would be around 3 years old.

As for sitting permanently on the bump stops, the car is either on them or is so dam close, as even on the slightest of bumps the car thumps and skips over the undulations, rather than ride/absorb them. Handling is not as good as it was when it was stock. Really wish I hadn't of thrown away the original springs last year in a clean up.

I will be getting a second opinion on Tuesday in regards to the rear end alignment issue I have got, but a Spring/shock replacement is clearly on the near horizon.
