Hi all,
I have a fuel gauge playing up in my TJ and was hoping someone has had similar problems and knows what's going on.
Basically it goes to full when i fill it up and then by about 100 ks its down half way then by 120ks its on empty with light on. Any ideas whats going on? Cluster? Sender?
Appreciate any advice

Sender is a common one.

Its a pretty easy fit. It was the first thing I changed in my Magna. There are plenty of threads on this subject - seems to be something that is guaranteed to die.

Yep looks like it! I'd pull it out of my wreck but I think that ones shot too. I hate buying new parts.

I got one from the wreckers. The car had done 110,000km and was 2 years older than mine but the sender is still working 3 years later. Only cost $20. The guy wanted to sell me housing it sits in along with the fuel pump, but all I wanted was the sender.

Sender is pretty common problem, had to replace the one on my TJ magna fairly early in the piece. Not hard to do, remove the bottom half of the back seat and unscrew the housing. Just make sure you don't have a full tank of petrol.

pretty sure its the sender - same thing on mine - contacts were worn away - new sender and all good

When I replaced mine, I walked into the local mits store and asked for one, the guy behind the counter didn't even blink an eye. He just reached behind him and grabbed one.

If I didn't know better, I would say that it is one of the most common things to go on a Magna.

I got it for 35 bucks from the wrecker, he didn't give me the entire unit though, just the bit i needed (electrical bit)
Funny cos he could've made more money if he sold me the entire thing as i didn't know it could be taken apart.

Hi Guys... am new to Aussie Magna... so pardon me if I'm not able to find the right thread for my issue.

I opened up my Magna TJ's cluster to clean it up. Since the tank was full when I removed the cluster, the fuel gauge was stuck up at full. I found out during the process that the fuel gauge was very hard to move up/down. Tried to ease it up but in vain. Anyway, I cleaned the whole cluster, replaced the old bulbs/globes with new blue LED and installed it back. When I started the car, the fuel gauge started coming down automatically and stopped right at empty. That was the last time I saw it work :(

Any suggestions as to what went wrong :)

Btw, the cluster looks stunning with blue LEDs in night but sorry for not taking pictures of the whole process, I know it could have been a clean DIY!

Seems like I've to buy a new fuel gauge or the whole cluster probably :(
