View Full Version : Manual Versus Automatic ECU ?

Hi Guys,
first post here, so excuse me if I've screwed up somehow.
My wife just bought a 95 V6 verada and 'it doesn't go'.
Essentially the fuel pump is not getting power.
I've tried connecting 12V to the test fuel pump plug under the bonnet but still nothing.
Anyway, I've checked everything I can and have come to the tentative conclusion that the ECU is dud.
So, my question is, is there any difference between the manual and automatic ECU's ?
This one has part number AW335191 in it and I want to buy a new (second-hand) one but concerned that the previous owner has already done so and put the wrong one in.
So, just wanting to confirm that the part number above is correct for a V6 auto.
TIA,
Brad.

Hi and welcome!

I am not sure about the two ECUs... Though just wondering if you checked for power at the relay?

Hi Shezza,
yes, I have.
I get voltage into (on the black/blue wire) and out of (on the black/white wire) the control relay.
I suspected a broken wire initially but after having stripped the interior out of the car to help track down the wires it doesn't look like it.
I'm confused why the test wire doesn't work though as it's supposed to go direct to the pump.

Could be the factory alarm system playing up and stopping getting power to the pump.

Hi Sparky,

I was just about to post an update and you're almost 100% correct.
The car has a cobra alarm fitted and after stripping out some more of the wiring loom I found where the alarm is spliced in to the fuel pump power circuit.
Checked the fuse that seems to power the alarm and it was ok but I'm guessing it had some corrosion on the blades because after plonking the fuse back in, the car now runs !
Bad news is that it looks like it's got a head gasket issue on the even bank....
I guess I half expected this when you buy a car that isn't running eh....

Thought I should close this one off with what I found.
The ECU certainly appears to be the same between manual and auto.
The final cause of my problem where the care would crank and start or crank and not start turns out to be a connector behind the climate controls.
I believe it's C15 (shame they don't actually label the connectors).
It was actually unplugged but sitting in the mating connector, so it made contact when it felt like it.
For the life of me, I can't see how it became unplugged, they're not easy to separate.
Anyway, plugged in securely and all is good.
