The roof on my 2005 GT is looking like crapp at the moment. I have large white patches appearing. I took it to my local sprayer who told me the clearcoat is delaminating.
I looked on the web and there is a proposed class action in USA against Mitsubishi for similar issues. If you check out a youtube link on a black Eclipse it is identical to mine. This has spread very quickly over last 3 months . I am concerned that the rest of the paint will go the same way. The boot is showing early signs but the side panels seem ok (at the moment)

This happened to my previous two Magnas had to respray both. Like yours both started on the roof, on top of the back windoe then spread bonnet. My latest 2007 380 thankfully has not shown any signs.

Yes. Had bonnett resprayed last year. Not good enough really. My old 92 VP comode which my son now drives still has unblemished paint.
Seldom hear anything about paint issues though from other owners. Guess I am just unlucky

That's sad for a 7 year old car.
I've stripped a roof showing such white patches, trying to get the weakened clearcoat off back to the colour coat. Turns out the white patches flake off easily, but the weakened clearcoat extends far beyond the visible patches. Clearcoat came off in large sheets, like hardened cellophane. In other words, a whole panel strip and repainting the horizontal panels is the only way to fix it permanently (or for the next 7 years).
UV light does the damage, darker colours seem to degrade fastest. Solid colours without clearcoat do best, as far as looking good longest - have a good look at the white 380s about.
Good luck with the class action. Mitsu will put the responsibility back on the paint supplier, whoever that is in the USA. Australia would have a different supplier for paints so any class action decision and remedial solutions resulting from legal action in the USA would have little effect on Australian Mitsu owners.
I blame the lack of car, and lack of a decent sealant protecting the clear coat

Door and side panels look ok (touch wood)
A friend has a 2005 Black Magna and the whole cars clearcoat is peeling in sheets. No white patches like mine.

Yours isn't far behind. I bet if you took a plastic scraper and worked the area around the white patches, it would come off in sheets too. Pretty quick deterioration once moisture can get between the clear and colour coats.
Don't know why Mitsu used that black, you really need to get close to it to see the metal flakes in it. A solid black with no clearcoat would have looked the same, with no problems 7 years later.

If you decide to get it sprayed, try Rob, he's out North of Adelaide, in Salisbury South.

Cheers
Getting it resprayed next monday by my local guy who did a first class job on my bonnet last year.
Apart from minor marks on the top of the boot the rest of the car looks ok

Got car back from the sprayers today. Looks great, I asked the boss why this happens and his response was..."Mitsubishi mate we respray roofs all the time"
Anyway. done now. No doubt boot lid next.

Good outcome.
When my car was repaired they did a top class job and the comment was the same re Mitsu paint. He told me they used 750ml of paint for the rear of the car and Mitsu would have used the same or less for the whole car. You can tell the difference - the new paint is much better than original.
I don't think Honda is much better. I bought a Civic for my mother and the paint looks just as thin.
